access to "all the music in the world" until you have albums from your childhood that aren't even available to stream "in your country"

like this one of my favorite albums of all time lol. Not even on streaming here. Poor Omar Lye Fook should've been an American I guess lol

This applies to more than just musicians. Books, series, news and other stuff that can get consumed digitally suffer from this.

Art is vitally important to culture and life and enriches it, but making important (or just making it in general) art shouldn't entitle you to being mega rich when so many people suffer, Ye or any artist getting an extra 100 million while people in countries like Palestine and Congo suffer is a failure of capitalism, everyone should win

Music can also be removed from streaming at any point for any reason and we are not entitled to a refund

Imagine paying someone that can take your freedom anytime they want to and you support that s***

I guess this is where you draw the line if you’re a real fan or not
taylor fans bought 6 variants of the same album in vinyl format just for them to never listen to them

This is totally different from what Ye is doing though.

Asking your fans to buy six different covers of the same album to boost your sales? Cool for people who wanna collect, but for the average person

Asking your fans to pay $20 for an album instead of putting it on streaming services that pay them less than literal pennies per stream? There’s genuinely nothing wrong with that and it shouldn’t be conflated with what Taylor/Travis did with their physicals

    bread

Also stagnant wages make a $20 album today more expensive than a $10-$13.99 album a decade ago so I understand that side of it

    That's a McDonald's meal today

Exactly, that’s why people who worship streaming make zero sense to me. If Spotify decides to shut down tomorrow, your entire library is gone. Always buy direct, whether it’s physical copies or digital downloads

I get what you’re saying but at the same time it’s not really a musician’s choice if they get rich from their art or not. If they sell a million copies of a record or hundreds of thousands of tickets to a show, how is it unethical that they became rich?
