Fwiw, they would have outsold Taylor if she didn't issue variants just to stay on top. She only sold around 71000 the week before this so even without the Ye's deluxe editions, he still likely would have won under normal circumstances. Taylor's new variants and other price drop gimmicks were a purposeful tactic to stay number 1. It wasn't natural and it's not just Ye she's done that to. Billie and Charli were also recent victims. She had an easy time weaponizing her fan base this time around since it was Ye and ended up selling double what she did the week before. Which is insane.

serenadethey did everything in their power to make sure nobody was hyped for this album when it came out, then randomly decided like three days into the week that going #1 was actually important to them. i don't get it tbh. if they cared that much, why not do an actual rollout leading up to a finished album with all the songs people wanted?
ye probably thought a surprise drop with his name attached was enough for everyone to listen
