Exactly. If Drake wants to use writers, that’s cool.

But you can’t simultaneously use writers and call yourself one of the best writers/lyricists of all time

But he’s still a great rapper and his signature style has been emulated by many but not nearly good as the originator. He still checks the boxes for being one of the greats

wym? his backing vox are on the song thats why i said that haha

reeses reeses dont be reeeeediclus is like. 100% pure PND, nobody else does s*** like that. as a fan of both of them i was not surprised at all that pnd wrote most of this song

i dont rly care if someone is helping drake write his r&b songs, i def understand the issue with something like mob ties where he also said he wrote it after he was mad at the pusha situation

but i think its just a philosophical divide, some people care and its rule number 1 for them, others dont care at all. people are never gonna agree about the importance of writers in the studio and at most its just a point for them to use against whatever artist they wanna argue against

The importance of penning your own s*** has been a thing way before Drake tho. Biting used to be the most taboo thing you could do

Isn’t a big part of Drake’s skill his ability to adapt his flow and cadence to so many different styles and sounds? How does finding out he’s using writers for that not affect his reputation?

Think more of drake as a Michael Jackson artist, not a Jay-z type artist

definitely but its also a uniquely hip-hop thing to care about, and with the ways the lines in genre are blurred now, sometimes it drags people into the discussion who come from a world where it doesnt really matter

songwriting for others is a beautiful thing, without the contributions of artists like the-dream and james fauntleroy we wouldn't have some of the best music of the 2000s and 2010s and thats just the s*** i care enough about to know about

but at the same time when it comes to bars in hip-hop its a cardinal sin

his style isnt even his own though
you can trace his s*** back to niggas like fab and joe and he uses the flows from his references

drake is a great preformer but because of stuff like this the rapping s*** is up in the air

like scary hours 3 looks funny in the light now with this like this out

None of the greatest rappers of all time were using writers. Even when people distinct Kanye they say “hip-hop artist” and have him way lower on the rapper list

The reason why Drake's career is still alive even with reference leaks is because the music is too good to deny and us drake fans know drake is a collaborator. Maybe your favorite rapper should collab with others too so he can keep u as fed as drake feeds us.Drake is bigger than rap and even with a reference track leaking he's still 10X better than your favorite

It’s cause in hip hop, bars are the defining trait in the genre.

Every genre has something that defines it. In r&b that trait has and always will he the ability to sing. That and writing are mutually exclusive.

Hip hop, the lyrics have and always will be what matters the most & was what made hip hop stand out to begin with.

It’s no coincidence the less emphasis that has been placed on bars and more on “vibes” the less popular hip hop has been lately lolololol
