From what I’ve been seeing and following (different hip hop podcasts and platforms and people I know)

People are relaxing that rule recently

I think a lot of people now feel like the music, albums and catalog matter more than certain old standards

Kanye’s impact coupled with his catalog is enough to get him serious top 10 consideration and I’m actually seeing him included more than I used to

I was on board with “he can’t be on a list” at one point

But I don’t think I feel the same anymore. Maybe not a lyricist list but a rapper list and all that encompasses, Ye and Drake can’t be outright disqualified. They did too much and even people like Nas Pac Jay Snoop etc would have to possibly be investigated too.

    yeah that’s why Kanye slides

when Drizzle puts out anything that’s on the level of Kanye’s peaks maybe we can reconsider

I see what he was trying to do with it but it got lost in the mix of the album tbh. Ratchet Happy Birthday on an album even like Honestly Nevermind would’ve received better in my opinion

I very true, I usually listen to albums as opposed to throwing on individual songs so it feels out of place

In the all-time rankings of the overall artist I can definitely see ye being included. We'll see how he's considered further down the line, but personally, the pen is so crucial for an overall goat status.

oh, and the whole “im a player but im also heartbroken because I keep getting done wrong by women” like yeah it sounds cool over different bars and s*** to an extent but that s*** is so shallow when he’s one of the biggest artists in the world, a billionaire and pretty much also brags about how many women want him

Like its not really personal at all versus Kendrick talking about cheating or even Kanye mentioning Kim

    At least drake has that

There’s no song that we can hear and say “kanye wrote this it’s definitely his pen” unless it’s a schizo mumble session

Okay but we all acknowledge Ye ain’t really on s*** as a rapper these days. And it’s looking like Drake is closer to that than he is to Kendrick and Cole

    https://au.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/the-weeknds-dark-twisted-fantasy-927/

Abel on Drake and Take care:

"I was hungry....I was like, 'Dude, take anything.'" Today, he says he has nothing but gratitude for Drake, whom he calls "my closest friend in the industry at that time." Still, he says, "I gave up almost half of my album. It's hard.''

What mental gymnastics are you gonna come up with now to cope?

Half of weeknd's album is like 5 songs right?

Drake’s song catalog, impact and longevity is strong enough to get him in consideration too. Take Care is still considered a generational album

We live in a time now where we get references

This was completely unheard of back then lol

Where there’s smoke there’s fire though tbh, I’m a Wayne stan but there was too much talk of him getting helped at that time to discount it. There wasn’t f***ing leaked.com back then
