A video of what seems to be a behind the scenes developer diary of the next Virtua Fighter game, titled Virtua Fighter Crossroads, was posted on a Bilibili user’s account today.

A new Virtua Fighter game developed by RGG Studio is already announced and was last discussed at Tokyo Game Show in September 2025, but publisher SEGA has yet to announce an official title or share further details.

“In terms of VS Mode, we’ve prepared modes that fighting game fans can feel at ease with,” an RGG Studio developer explained in the video. “This time we’re placing a huge emphasis on the narrative, but we’ve also made sure there’s a mode where, the moment you boot up the game, you can immediately jump into a one-on-one match.”

He continued, “People tend to think of Virtua Fighter as a unique and complex game, but my first impression was completely different. There weren’t any difficult commands—it was a game you could enjoy with simple controls using just three buttons: punch, kick, and guard.

“We wanted to preserve that ability to play through intuitive controls alone, so while keeping that intact, this time we’re brushing everything up and reexamining the game from the ground up.”

“We first started by thinking about what would happen if we pursued realism. For example, with the guard systems in previous games, we asked ourselves whether real martial arts masters would actually guard like that. Depending on the nature of the punch, they’d react differently. We wanted to express that kind of realism first, and from there we started thinking about what kind of gameplay it would create.”

Another developer added, “There are a lot of moves, and the game can be complex, so we need to create a new level of depth. That might sound contradictory to what was said earlier about being easy to pick up and play, but I think those ideas can coexist—and that they must.”
