Gonna start collecting 😄
What’s are some of the best sites to buy?
when i first started, i literally just went through my library, and listed all the albums i thought i HAD to have
once you got a list, go to discogs to look up albums to see if they were pressed to vinyl, and if they were, you can get info on all variants, if any, that were released, and which ones you like
plus it'll give you an idea on how much they might run
then check ebay as to see if it's being sold for less
if you want an album that isn't "hyped" |(eg: Phoebe Bridgers Punisher album - endless amounts of variants and restocks but it still sells out every time it gets put up, so the resell price is expensive for lowkey no reason),| then there's a good chance it'll sell for less on discogs or ebay so thats why i start there.
as far as browsing, i would say going to local shops in your area
it'll be more expensive by a few bucks per album, but these shops come in handy when you want to get really sought after s*** (i straight up had an owner hide/hold a vinyl for me so that no one else would buy it before i got a chance to get there and buy it)
plus, it's better than buying walmart/amazon/urban outfitters/target
lastly, when new albums are coming out and you want them on vinyl, it'll usually be cheapest to buy them from artist website or whatever merch store they set up. usually they set up orders weeks before so don't kinda wait until release day to check-- follow their twitter/ig and you'll get most updates
ok, very last point, on the subject of limited editions and variants:
so now most albums will get pressed into different variants. sometimes an artist will release an album with like 500 copies on blue vinyl, and 1000 on sparkly vinyl, etc etc. That won't be all- you have other stores that will release their own "exclusive" variant. honestly, there's so many exclusives now that...it's not exactly exclusive. so just go after whatever appeals to you. don't get caught up in a "i must get this one cause they only put out 1000 copies of this" trap {like i did
}
