i'm chillin, bro. there have been a lot of great albums to release this year, but for me, this isn't one of them. you do you, tho!

It really feels like an album intentionally constructed to hide its secrets. The production envelops the vocals so cagily it's like Vince is hiding in plain sight.

I always think the best musicians, when they have a theme they really want to hammer home, make the same album in many different, unique, and creative ways

This certainly keeps the content of Vince Staples bars and encases it in really inscrutable production that, to be honest, undercuts the sheer enjoyability of his rapping -- and in doing so, I think, kind of flips the brilliant musical extroversion of Summertime 06 and even Big Fish Theory and internalizes the angst he displays in his lyrics

I've listened several times and I still am unsure exactly "how good I think it is" but it is an album that encourages replaying in full and that is definitely an achievement in the current age of low attention spans (even if it is the length of a TV sitcom and shorter than some of his EPs)

As an aside I think this will solidify Vince fans into two ideological camps(ignoring the pre-existing divide between those who swear by Old Vince and think his last 4-6 years are b***oo vs us who celebrate his musical journey) -- those who like FM! better and those who like self titled better
