Incredible album. It reminds me a lot of Prima Donna but just dejected and despondent instead of manic. His pen is still absurdly sharp and Kenny nailed the woozy, nostalgic vibe.
take me home also a stand out
It’s iight I don’t go to Vince for singing s*** lol

yeah thats why foushee kills that beat in the end
Confused at the feedback in this thread lol.
You guys say it’s too boring but you also want it to be 40 min, basically twice as long?
Wouldn’t it be even more boring then?

Listening rn it’s cool, the drums annoying as f*** tho Kenny had to make the hi hats the forefront of almost every beat on here
Critical acclaim, sure. But the fan response was super divided
Revisionist s***. It wasnt at all. TPAB was seen as a classic when it dropped. Years later people look back on it and think it wasnt all that coz it didnt have as much replay value as gkmc so they change up (and ktt likes to be different)

They said the same thing about GKMC
Sundown Town and Mhm are the best tracks.
Solid album, but not his best work. 8/10. Production is very similar on most tracks. Safe album. Will be in rotation for a bit.
Damn thread is very divided lol
Most vince projects are like that in the 1st week.

This is a good review imo
this is nice, feels like an album that could get better on each listen.
Vince's lyrics are still great here, I can see why people might have issues with the delivery but he's still got bars
Review:
(First, anyone talking about “vince sounds monotone” I’m convinced has never listened to a vince staples project before)
I’d be lying if there werent 1 or 2 songs I wished had a 3rd verse (mainly sundown town and lil fade) but it doesn’t take away from the experience. Kenny getting killed for saying it (and he was kinda wrong and prolly trolling) but i get what he means by s06 vince. I love BFT and i love FM! But idk how you listen to take me home and not feel him getting back in his vulnerable “summertime” bag. He’s getting vivid all over this project.
This production is crazy to me. But one consistent theme through this site on this is Kenny Beats is not a good producer lol. But cool, you have a valid point in saying the beats can get a lil samey and I won’t argue against that. But i think that’s the vibe they were going for which is why this is definitely a great album for those summer nights. But, i get the critique there.
The reason this is different from summertime ‘06 was because that album was talking bout a moment in his time that effected not just him but the people (and the girl) around him. Of course that’ll be much longer than this album that’s more centered on just himself. Listening to it multiple times does make the skits start to make sense: mom being thugged out shows its in his genes and his friend talking about vince leaving a situation that coulda got him killed or locked shows his intuition.
This better than FM! for me. Another good vince project. Can’t wait for Ramona Park
Second listen, it’s not terrible, but I hate that there’s trap hi hats on every track
