He didn’t really tone down his production rather than going with a different style to fit his lyrical content and atmosphere of the project
He kinda undersold BFT on his drink champs interview he said he only made that album for movie soundtrack placements but he obviously was involved in the conceptual/production process
He undersells every album he releases
That album is filled with great verses that document his adjustment from going from a regular nigga to a famous rapper over amazing production that sounded like nobody else at that time
I’m here to tell the world I’m from Ramona Park
Underrated tape tbh
Don’t get the Kenny beats hate, fm was weak but st had some of Vince’s most fire beats I’ve heard in a while
Also controversial opinion, summertime 06 isn’t all good, at least not for every album he puts out to get compared to it
Big fish theory>>s06
S*** was ahead of its time, niggas will come around eventually

He definitely toned the production down, I’m not saying he doesn’t like the production he’s on now but i feel like critical reception definitely plays apart in his sound choice and he’s hyper aware of peoples perception of his music so i have a hard time believing it doesn’t factor in for him. I guess you can say it highlights the content for some people, but the content has been in every style of music he’s done its just a lot of people aren’t listening deep enough

BFT was such a cinematic sounding album he sequenced it perfectly he took a innovative approach to old westcoast music that went over a lot of heads you can tell it was also inspired by afrofuturism

his best work imo

Yeah seriously
Just pains me to see such a creative and great album go so underappreciated
Like he coulda just let the beats carry him but he got on every beat and spazzed and completely stayed himself
I keep expecting to get Summertime 06 again but it feels like every project he has dropped since has been filler almost.
smd
Self Titled does not have a single bad song.
and Take Me Home is easily a top tier Vince song

I can understand that I will say the mellow beats on S/T allowed for his lyrics to be at the forefront this time around while on BFT and S06 it was more about how every detail was intentionally put together to deliver a certain atmosphere or idea
so do i
I saw bro knock out 4 niggas at one time in 2017 bruh leave him alone
U dont know that nigga irl

Ironically this reminds me of how blank face was received and how that effected the way Q approached his next album
