He is right. the critics that are the loudest never make music themselves. Study the craft. they often review the person and take moments like this as notes so next album he drops they can get their get back

With that being said, and this is from the standpoint of being a musician, that if you deeply care about critics you only have two options for preserving your mental health in navigating the ecosystem as critics coexist in it:

Actively ignore critics completely
Actively appease critics when making your music

There is no in between without tampering with your mental health imo. This is an example of being in between

why is music the only art form or anything you consume for damn near free but you feel entitled to speak on the artist work on it when they venture into new avenues. Especially black art that questions the systems of slavery and racism
