To you. I know verbally other fellow musicians irl that dont feel that way at all.

You don’t think I’ve dealt with all of the negatives that come with it lol?

I still wouldn’t compare it to people who have to work at fast food

And you still like it I’m not discarding that at all.

I’m just saying it is possible for someone to see this as the one thing they know they are best at and dont really have another option that can make as much capital so they just do it but to them they also see s*** as a job.

I’m just saying every musician is not a monolith.

Yeah I understand that its just in poor taste to compare you being able to do music at any level to someone who has to work fast food to survive

Im not saying its not a struggle but its not an equal struggle

This person in a thread some years ago summed him up perfectly

I think Vince is genuinely funny and smart but also would probably be annoying to talk to
He seems like if you drank water out the tap in front of him he’d be like “niggas drinking tap water but wanna have political opinions…” like what
But if you said you didnt drink tap water he’d be like “nigga too good for tap water but wanna talk hip hop”
Like u cant win with him lmao

Like vince pointed out (but in long form), a burger flipper’s pay is at least consistent.

A freelance working musician is inconsistent. Sometimes you land 1 or 2 wedding gigs that can cover rent for a month and sometimes you dont get a single call for 3 weeks just cause “the season is slow”

    Also this.

I appreciate someone who takes their time cooking my burger more than I appreciate someone dropping some terrible music.

S*** the guy making your burger could be making his raps in the fridge as we speak!

  • i'm pretty sure vince said once he never had an actual job before music so he never even flipped burgers. how is he gonna speak for burger flippers and if they have a favorite or not

Like 5-6 years ago I’d definitely say if you a musician you have no right to complain cause look what we get paid to do

Now it’s like, well look what we dont get paid to do lmao. My change in opinion is based on lotta things, mainly the state of the industry just getting way worse lmfao.

  • 😂😂mfw niggas dont wanna actually have a discussion man yall have a good day

  • Poolboy Q

Smh they’re not even close. I’d much rather be paid by a label to sit around smoking weed all day trying to make my magnum opus. Something I’d put time energy and passion into.

McDonald’s employees don’t have passion for making McGangbangs for s***ty customers.

I feel like we turned tables here. I’m usually the obtuse one

reading mcgangbangs just destroyed me at work

  • Bro not nearly as funny as he thinks

  • dawn 😹

I had a favorite bowl when I worked at Chipotle

He’s acting like sitting around in a studio all day making art is the equivalent of working a dead end job making roach burgers

    #IfOnlyYouKnew lololololol

You aren’t wrong if we were talking musicians as a whole but we’re talking about Vince staples who’s always on a festival run and has had dozens of songs in movies, call of duty, s*** I think he even said he got a cheque from the army lmao

musicians have every right to complain. especially now, compared to the pre-streaming time period.

    Kinda still are.

It’s not as simple as “i get paid by a label to sit around and smoke weed” (first off that money the label paying you, you gotta make it back that aint just yours lol)

I’d get more into it but it’s past threads that have all but confirmed non-musicians will never try to really understand how grueling and (sometimes) dead-ending this occupation can be at times. It’s cool.

Not really. I get all that label s***. It’s not a hard concept.

If we’re going to treat being a rapper like it’s a real job then why would anyone try to join an industry that is already notoriously oversaturated with other musicians?

Mfs out here sweating breaking their backs digging holes but “oh being a rapper is such a tough job” really?

“Freelance musician” is a side hustle not a full time job

I'm speaking on the field. vince is 1 of 1 lol.

But he's also said he doesn't really like touring

Nigga said he pretty much only do music for the money lol

Which lowkey it checks out I remember him saying he was just a gangbanger who happened to know Mac and all the Odd future mf

I always feel like he’s posturing when he says this bc in his rap radar interview he was super serious for most of it and really broke down how you cannot make it in music if you don’t make it all of your life and love it on some level
