Chose the most boring person in the world to make the main character of a show like this
then the worst part is when critiqued some are like "cause she a woman"
No because truth be told often my favorite people in scenes are the hive, manusos or the other survivors more than Carol. Her goal of seeking to ruin a utopia so that people are suffering like they used to again. Has me at odds about whether to root for her. Especially considering she was about to run off with a random womans body controlled by all of humanity after having the s***she always wanted.
Now since that love is a lie she again wants to ruin it for both the hive and the other remaining survivors. So that everyone has their own free will again. Which is in some ways good but in other ways kind of dooms humanity to its old ways either way
agree except shes not a karen
@Fredward She's intentionally written to give "Can I talk to your manager?" energy at numerous points throughout the show
The s*** with the Gatorade - "I didn't say lukewarm, not tepid. Ice cold". The way she uses the joined people at certain points is meant to be seen as demanding and entitled, those are like the defining characteristics of a Karen
A "Karen" is a popular slang term used to describe a privileged, angry, and entitled person—usually a middle-aged white woman—who demands their own way at the expense of others.
How is this not Carol?

A Karen is a one dimensional caricature of a suburban mother
She is an educated lesbian with a modicum or celebrity. Jaded and depressed and rude yes.
Not quite a Karen at all but the fact that he calls her a Karen then ask why people view her as unlikable is baffling. There are clear points where she does things that the audience is meant to get annoyed with her. Manuosos and other survivors all interesting too to me
I get finding her unlikable. That's very much what the show wants. I don't get using the protagonist being unlikable as a criticism of the show or to say that this show somehow doesn't measure up to BB or BCS, which is a lot of the discussion that was happening in here. If you don't like her, Vince and em did a good job because that's what they want

Doesn’t apply when the subject of her negativity is in the wrong (trying to destroy humanity)
Karen is a pejorative slang term typically used to refer to a middle class woman who is perceived as entitled or excessively demanding. The term is often portrayed in memes depicting middle-class white women who use their white and class privilege to demand their own way. Depictions include demanding to "speak to the manager", being racist, or wearing a particular bob cut hairstyle.
Multiple people saying "She's not a Karen". Very intentional that she's the only white American of the 12. That second episode had her trying to convince everyone else that she was right and they were wrong. She was driving a cop car around for half the season. Did we watch the same show??

You can absolutely be demanding and excessively entitled while your actions are in the name of a "good" cause. Protestors for noble causes can still be Karens

I think its entirely too early to compare to BCS or Breaking Bad. I also think the amount of various characters on screen and Walt interacting with them or saul leads to a more compelling show than seeing her interact with the hive in many human forms then limited interaction with survivors. Do I think we need 5 seasons of "omg does she find a cure does she free them and fall in love "
I dont know man
Wait ppl actually on the side of the hive?? #thatfigures
I am not on side of hive in reality. In a show where the point of the infection was that they are doomed either way in a very close proximity it raises the question of its worth curing. Also it feels like once she cures it the plot of the show kind of ends.

but she isnt about a good cause outside of herself

She was partially an karen undeniable. Being educated and lesbian doesnt stop someone from being a Karen
Im pretty sure vince saw the reaction towards skyler and Kim from BB & BCS and wanted to play around with the idea of an "unlikable" female lead that's not really unlikable. Her behavior is actually pretty normal for how someone would act in her shoes. It's just contrasted with how nice and subservient the hive is
I didn't find Carol unlikeable most of the time. Actually reasonable, given the circumstances. Maybe the moral here is that I'm a d*** too

She is a hypocrite self righteous character man. Part of her is unlikable and she is doing this under the guise of caring about their free will. While also demanding they feel the way she feels amongst the other survivors. She has main character syndrome and when she had her own hive of devoted fans she belittled them. She isnt hateable you dont want her to die but she isnt someone in this given situation you would rush to be around. There is a reason she is isolated from the rest of the group. It isn't just because she is the smartest or the best human. She succumbs to the same lie of humanity as they do. She just spends the entire season acting like she is better than them because she resist it but in the end she is equal. She then gets an atomic bomb ( potentially) because the hive broke her heart. Her emotional state has lead to massive deaths of the others so her potentially getting a literal atomic bomb like joking about a grenade shows a lack of care at time. A human being who constantly pretends they dont give a f*** from her book sales to wanting her book on the top at the aiport. That level of insecurity without that level of self awareness can be a lot.

Her character is nuanced. While yes she exhibits unlikable traits, she's also undergone immense trauma and is interacting with people who are acting as if nothing's changed at all.
The other survivors also have unlikable characteristics. Manousos for example also has main character syndrome and Dibate is hedonistic

I don’t think they are acting as if nothing changed at all . They have weekly meetings make discoveries . They are just less focused on trying to turn a world where so many died back to normal also how would they even distribute a cure ? How do they know a cure wouldn’t kill or permanently damage the humans ? Will the humans return with their memories or any memories at all ? They aren’t scientist
Manusos highly determined and is who Carol thinks she is at times in regards to resisting hive. He eating dog food she f***ing hive raw with no thought of if that could effect her

I mean arent they ? They seem pretty content and complacent with the way the world is. One lady is acting as if her son is still the same. And another as if her husband is still the same.
They're having those meetings to help solve the overpopulation issue even though the simplest solution is to just turned them back
