Vic Mensa started off his career with the mixtape “Innanetape” which is already a favorite amongst real hiphopheads. It gives the listener a rough idea of the talent and potential Vic Mensa possessed. Features by Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid,Thundercat and Chance The Rapper (the other Chi town prodigy that would make the 2010s unforgettable) meant Vic already had a lot of eyes on him. And if critics and fans are to be believed, he delivered.
Fun fact: Vic Mensa performed Innanetape in full at Riot Fest two weekends ago. A real treat for the fans.

After Innanetape, Vic Mensa dropped his debut single “Down On My Luck”. Following up on your debut tape with a single as catchy as this? He combined hip hop & house like no artist I’ve ever seen before. The choruses are catchy, the keyboard hook is bright, the rhythmic propulsion punctuated by the female vocal sample is extremely danceable, and the first half of the sole verse is a pocket of beauty ("She loves to dream, living in and off and out her mind / In space and time, she takes a line & lies her life / Away you might just say she stays to go nowhere").
    Such a great video too.

But he doesn’t stop there. In 2015, Vic Mensa drops U Mad. Featuring Kanye West. One of hip-hop’s hottest artists at the time, dropping a track with Vic Mensa that gets you hype just when you hear the first second. Put this after All Day in your workout playlist for double the punch.

In 2016, Vic Mensa finally drops a project. “There’s A Lot Going On” contains some of his most heartfelt songs. Dynasty goes incredibly hard, Liquor Locker is so incredibly catchy & the self-titled track as the closing song does not fail to make me tear up, every time again. Such a cathartic closer with remarkable storytelling. Something Vic starts exploring even more in the later part of his discography.

In 2017, we finally get his debut album “The Autobiography”. This dropped closely after he dropped the EP “The Manuscript”, with the tracks on this EP serving as teaser for the full meal.

While fans were waiting for “Traffic”, the album Vic always proclaimed would be his debut album, he ultimately decided to scrap it in favor of “The Autobiography”. Fair to say, not a mistake.

Vic Mensa delves deeper into his vulnerability and showcases his complex persona. Features Ty Dolla $ign, Chief Keef, Syd, Pharrell Williams & Weezer, combined with some of Vic’s best lyricism to date, make this an unforgettable experience.

For the next few years, Vic Mensa would be quiet. In 2020, this silence is broken. Vic Mensa drops V Tape as an EP and just strengthens his legacy. He sounds hungrier than ever and does not let up. Not long after, the I Tape drops and does not let up on the greatness. These tapes feature old favorites and new faces, combining with Vic to make some of his best music to date.

We can only wonder what the C Tape holds in store for us, and to what new heights Mensa will take us once he finishes what looks to be one fantastic trilogy.

Vic Mensa is better than J cole & Chance

He would be next him & Denzel Curry
    after Drake n Kendrick
    On a mainstream level

Travis Scott is a hit maker

he did it to himself 3bh, had he capitalized on the realm of "down on my luck" he wouldn't be shopping for a new identity every year like he is now.

I for one am happy Vic stuck to making the music he wanted to make at any given time, and decided not to be boxed into a certain lane just because he found some success there.
