Those touchpads just too good man
they're a novelty unless you really make use of them all the time for living room pc stuff, because they're not responsive enough for serious FPS s***, which is a shame bc i'd use em if they were. and i used it that way for a while, but went back to keyboard and mouse wireless with a lapdesk.
Polling rate definitely sucks for how expensive it is. I have a gamesir g7 with 1000hz polling and you're 100% right, they feel better to play with. Dumb for valve to drop the ball on that
But I feel like the average person picking up the steam controller doesn't really care. If they did, they'd already be buying the alternatives. The "steam deck layout in a controller" is the main selling point people gravitate towards. The back buttons are what do it for me, I map Y X A B to them in pretty much every game
i mean yeah you get it, the third party controllers are better. idrgaf what the average person does, i'm saying why it sucks for mfs who are actually enthusiasts, although i'm not seeing most normal people buying it over something cheaper and more well known like the console controllers, which all suck too btw. and most of these third party controllers have back buttons too which im sure you know. i had a victrix one with four for a while but i think the sweet spot is two for me

I get the most use out of them with RTS games, also super useful for mapping shortcuts. But yeah any type of aiming, even 3rd person feels pretty bad. Being able to really dial in the sensitivity through the settings is nice, but most of the time I don’t want to go through the hassle

Steam controller pro with 1k polling for $200 in moments honestly

yeah to be fair i don't play rts or strategy with it, still need to give that a try. not my home genre but as long as it isn't super reliant on responsive fast inputs i'd be willing to try it

that would be way too much man. it should've shipped with 1k at $99 period. unless you're joking lmfao

yes im joking
Like I said I agree 100% on those gamesir type controller being the better buy
and mind you you don't need the device itself to get the benefits. i own an ARM handheld (odin 3 ultra) running armada, ARM steamos like linux distro, that has massively benefitted from valve's work in the ARM space with lepton, proton arm, fex etc and i will never buy the overpriced mid that is the frame lmfao. not to mention my actual linux pc
& as fam said above, they give away their own software for free
I tend to avoid Steam although I do use SteamVR for my VR headset, they have been a benefit to gamers
They do make great software & do right by their customers (the latter admittedly not as hard to do when you have a monopoly as the PC gaming middleman)
They should've made a slightly bigger effort with the GPU choice imo
I use my G7 on PC way more than my steam controller
I'm an 8BitDo guy myself
But i hear you

yeah i don't fw steam itself as a storefront much at least for devs, only thing i care about is the foss stuff they contribute to
