What's the selling point for this system? admittedly I like the look of it but the specs seems unimpressive and I assume the price won't be more reasonable than other modern systems.

Ease of access to steam ecosystem

depends on the price but if it’s sub-$700 then it’ll be the defacto gaming PC for families that can’t afford a real gaming PC
studios will target it with AAA titles and since Proton already runs most titles good enough it will make spending $1200+ on a gaming rig a hard sell
biggest thing in this announcement that no one is really talking about is valve's ARM support in general. mindblowing

i think you should actually assume that it's gonna be competitively priced. if you already have a great PC and you know how to set it up like a console/couch experience, then not much, but if you don't and want something affordable and reliable, or want to get it for someone else to get them into PC gaming, i imagine this is gonna be the best option.
Wish it could play COD, Fortnite and BF6
this is kind of random but i've recently solved that problem myself because there are a couple games with KLAC I do actually wanna play.
i used something called windows to go, which is when you install windows to an external ssd through a specialized application like rufus. if you're at least somewhat computer savvy it really shouldn't be that difficult, doesn't take long either. then you go into your bios, change the boot order so it boots into it first, and voila, i got windows on my linux PC. I even configured it (ie literally just checked a checkbox) so that it couldn't access my internal drives, which defeats the main problem of dual booting, which is that windows erases the linux bootloader a lot of the time and f***s your whole s*** up.
im pretty surprised that this isn't a more common thing people do. when i tried to do some research there wasn't a lot of information on it, but i can confirm it works perfectly, including the games i wanna play with minimal performance impact, just slightly longer loading times. now i have my linux PC, and when i wanna play those KLAC games i just plug it in and it boots to windows. when im done i shut down, unplug it and I'm back to my pristine linux install. something to consider

Seems like a mid tier PC console aimed at mainstream / people like me that don’t do PC gaming. It’s not some over the top high end PC type device but something”good enough” for people like me / mainstream that don’t know where to start with PC s*** and wants something to just work out of the box like typical video game consoles
If they get this in brick and mortar retail and price it competitively with the consoles, Xbox really might be gone for good
yea
They should have never released this
I remember when these came out in 2013 and everyone was s***ting on it for good reason

I wish we got this like 5 years ago
I already own so many games on ps5 that switching over to this as my main console would feel like a waste, otherwise I totally would get this
That’s how they’ve trapped people since the PS4. Digital era was the worst time for Xbox to fumble the launch
PlayStation will be smooth sailing from now on since everyone bought games for the console and don’t want to move on
My PlayStation is nothing but an exclusive machine and my Xbox is for gamepass and multiplats
I’ll gladly buy this thing so I can play all my multiplats with mods instead

Ps “exclusives” end up going to steam eventually. PS has no games
Anyone who knows nerd nomenclature do we have any idea how powerful this is in comparison to PS5/Xbox?

Series X and PS5 are better I think. Upscaling will do a lot of the heavy lifting on this, and I imagine this will cost more than those systems do.
Plus SteamOS limitations (COD etc) will limit the library if you want online play.
I feel like the niche this appeals to already have better options available.
