any official gamecube controller will do the trick. you could use an xbox or ps controller but those kinda ass to play melee with.

just peep eBay or your local game shop to cop a real controller. the Smash 4 / ultimate controllers aren't that great. either get the Japanese white controller or just any random old gamecube controller

you buy the may flash gamecube adapter (4 port) of the official one by Nintendo (gamecube adapter for switch) either works.
