Yeah. From my own research, Usher gave mixed responses when asked about JT during that confessions era. In some interviews he played down any sense of competition between them; in others, he chose not to answer at all. There was also a TRL appearance where he called Justin a b****, which he later retracted, saying he was joking. And of course, there’s the incident I just mentioned at the VMAs where he told people stop comparing them.

Did some more digging. Apparently Usher tried to bait JT into a dance-off around 2002 while Justin was with his then-girlfriend Alyssa Milano on the dance floor.

This is why I can’t stand mfs who try to downplay JT as a musician. The dude was literally a threat musically. Say what you want about the person, but the musician (along with his collaborators) was a threat.
