What I’m saying is why not go outside to fight them? You have the sun that’s coming up, you have a juke joint to retreat if needed. Bringing them into the one place keeping you safe was stupid.

Fighting in house is way more logical than fighting outside with unlimited space to be attacked and get surrounded

Finna go see this again. I didn’t wanna say anything bc everyone in here was super high on it but I left very mixed to even disappointed a bit with what I saw vs the hype train aura going into it.

It felt like it was dragging to get to the second half to the point where my date and I legit were like can we get on with it. Could have been because I knew where it was going as far as the supernatural elements so if I knew absolutely nothing maybe it wouldn’t have felt that way

As soon as smoke shot the s\*\*\* out of Hailee I was locked in with the immediate tone shift. But even then I was super disappointed with how short that part of the film felt. Could have also done with out the action hero KKK slow mo slaughter. I was ready for the film to be over at that point it felt random even tho I know it was kinda set up via dialogue but idk felt thrown in

However, visually I haven’t stopped thinking about it. I think now that I know what it is and what to actually expect I’ll be able to appreciate it more for the film it is vs what i expected with all the hype

Man I’m 100% with you and had a lot of the same issues. I was at like a 7/10 at first viewing but didn’t want to ruin the opening weekend vibe in the thread by complaining about the movie lol.

The second act draggeddddd for me. It felt like I spent a good half hour thinking, “When’s the actual vampire s*** gonna happen?” 90% of the vampire scenes in the movie seemed to be just conversations at a doorway. And then I thought the third act, the part of the film I was looking forward to the most, ended up being pretty weak itself. The final climactic battle didn’t make much sense to me. The KKK sequence also seemed somewhat tacked on. So I spent an hour waiting on the vampire stuff and then ended up being disappointed by the vampire stuff.

That said, I enjoyed it much more the second time when I already knew what to expect. Hope it’s the same for you.

Idk personally I thought all of the character and world building was really great in the first half . The audience wouldn’t have cared so much about the characters if Coogler didn’t spend that time fleshing them out

I think it was a really nice surprise that the trailers make us think we are going to see a straight up horror film, but then we find out the movie is so much more than a few scares

Compromising the only place that guarantees safety is more logical? yeah some yall niggas wild

All except two died so, so much for “logic”

And when the little “come inside” plan didn’t work, guess where they had to resort to? Going outside

Lmao yall better than me but I also don’t care if niggas ITT are offended by me disliking parts of a movie they had nothing to do with.

Its a great win for Ryan and black cinema and might even make my top 10 for the year but ill never pretend this movie is perfect. It has too many flaws.

Idk about Nope but Get Out is too tight of a script. No time wasted.

Get Out just ain't move me as much as this. This one has a much more emotional core to it. Get Out was more like "damn these white people crazy". Sinners had that except they were also vampires and the music was amazing.

Loved it. I know some felt it was too jarring cus of the camera work and POV.

I had to travel about an hour to go see it cus of how limited the showings were

Definitely a lot of flaws. Third act is still the weakest part of the film to me when it should be the strongest. The central tension between the magic musicians and vampires felt underbaked and could’ve used more fleshing out. The accent work was at times less than stellar. And I also thought large portions of the movie were really underlit. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the DP’s style because some of the Wakanda Forever underwater scenes made me feel the same way

I felt like that on my first watch. Get Out and Moonlight I didn’t really “get” on the first watch, just because I went into both caught up in the hype. But then 2nd watch it all clicked.

As much as I love the cinematography I did think some scenes were dark.

One scene in particular where Smoke goes into town, I think it’s after he talks to the teenage girl and they walk to his truck, there was like a 2 sec shot where it was way darker than the other shots in that scene

I thought the POV s*** was great too and the main 2 boys were terrific.
After watching I was kinda shocked/ not shocked at how snubbed it was at the Oscars

I never said was bad just not what I was expecting

I was expecting something else and in a sense wanted something else based on trailers, reviews, my own preconceived notions and prior knowledge of the supernatural element which is on me. That’s not the fault of the movie ofc but I was still disappointed in that sense which is okay. I’m going to see it again hopefully soon so I can have a more fair viewing now that I know what it is.

I just felt the vampire section should have had more umph. It like went half way to From Dusk till Dawn but never went fully there with that section. Not that I wanted it to be that movie but that’s definitely the closest comparison I can make. Could have done more with the spiritual aspect / singing in the fight or something given how much emphasis on the singing/ playing there already was.

The action was messy and quick which makes total sense they are all normal humans in a very grounded story but still it just kinda went over like a wet fart in that act when it should have been the strongest most cathartic part of the movie. Instead it was pretty by the numbers and felt rushed

I think I felt more satisfied coming out of Get Out than Sinners first watch, tbh. Even though I appreciated the craftsmanship of Sinners more than Get Out...and the highs of Sinners were better than the highs of Get Out.
