Went in completely blind and saw this in IMAX today
Great movie that last scene was incredible
Prolly another 10 years with him doing x files and BP3
It’s crazy to think we’ve only gotten 2 non IPs from him. And realistically this is the only film he cooked up 100% from no other story but his own
I gotta say though, working the IP films allowed him to learn and bring what he learned and applied it to this film.
That kind of why I’m ok with directors like Coogler going in and doing big blockbusters or IP driven films. It works as a lesson that they can take and apply things to their originals.
Without the Panther films I don’t think he would have been able to pull off some of the things done in this film.

I agree 100%. Coogler is the best person to handle IPs, look at Creed he did a fresh spin and made that s*** feel like an original.
I really hate this type of reporting. Why can’t this just be considered a win for Coogler and original films???

Very solid point

Only seen Creed 3 to this day
Only seen Creed 3 to this day
Wait….
Do you mean you skipped Creed 1 and Creed 2 and only watched Creed 3?
Round 3 (taking my mom and aunt they gon piss themselves at that jumpscare at the start)

It always kills me how people watch a movie this stacked with meaning and walk away with the dumbest takeaway ever
Like what do you mean “yeah that’s why you leave them white women alone”

https://twitter.com/variety/status/1914007485696102677Because it’s not a win financially yet. Pretty simple

Im a madman I admit
Because it’s not a win financially yet. Pretty simple
These first week numbers are a win, and the fact that a big film studio gave a black director $100 million dollars to make an original horror film is a win.
And the film having strong word of mouth is a win.
I hope this film makes a nice profit, but these media publications are always too focused on box office numbers and “film profitability” as soon as a movie releases, instead of actually appreciating quality of the movie itself
Variety is in cahoots with streamers and studio execs. They've recently started focusing heavily on numbers and profitability reporting in an effort to paint non-IP and/or theatrical releases in a negative light
I’ve been noticing that as well smh . They were doing the exact same thing for Mickey17
His X-Files show will likely be great btw. I usually wouldn’t have much optimism about an older show getting a reboot, but Coogler always has a clear vision and he is a strong writer.
I think the show will be in good hands, and we are going to get a lot of diverse and interesting stories
The cinematography, lighting, and music will probably be great as well
Im gonna fix this I promise
Naw now I’m curious on how you landed on Creed 3 first
It’s the worst one in the trilogy (still a cool film but it’s below 1 & 2)
It isn’t Coogler
It spoils the previous movies (like now knowing his daughter is deaf when in Creed 2 it was a mystery)
And it isn’t Coogler

Saw the trailer for Creed II back then and I was like "eh, prolly won't watch this," but creed 3 trailer I was like yeah, I like the dynamic between MBJ and Beats by Majors.
When it comes to Creed I, the hype train completely missed me
had a lot of bs going on in 2015
It always kills me how people watch a movie this stacked with meaning and walk away with the dumbest takeaway ever

“I don’t wanna hear a white persons opinion on this movie”
Like I get it, I can rock with it to a certain extent, but the movie has a lot more to say than just the racial component of the film. The deeper commentary imo is on religion, and maintaining cultural practices
