IF you knew what the f*** you were talking about in regards to religion, you wouldn't be saying stupid s*** like this. Lol. You rather spread hate though.

all Imma say is….. the holy crusades

    Westboro Baptist Church-

white radicalized Christian men shooting and killing multiple people in mosques and temples….

but they have nothing in common, right?
Legislators using biblical passages to promote slavery as a right? Ok 👍

I don't think religion's bad but the connection between religious fundamentalism and anti-LGBT sentiment is pretty obvious, this article focuses specifically on anti-trans campaigners but there are a lot of people who see the idea of pushing back against LGBT acceptance as desirable because they percieve it as God's will

what are you even talking about dawg

Argument is weird bro. People been queer forever from all types of cultures.

Like they’re using “indigenous” people as a mascot basically? I usually hear this from white hippies talking about african or native american tribes. Just rubs me the wrong way.

what he is trying to say is that civilizations and societies all over the world had gay people, trans people, non binary people etc. until europeans came over with Christianity that typically condemns homosexuality, and essentially assimilated those cultures to their morals and ideological framework

he isnt blaming indigenous people, he is saying that their homophobia isnt native to their culture, it was imported

he is mentioning that people were queer from all diff backgrounds to support the argument that being gay or some strain of LGBT+ isnt new, and not a part of some liberal gay agenda

"from anti-trans lobbyists and state lawmakers"
"because they percieve it as God's will".

I already addressed this. If your disdain comes from politicians using religion manipulatively to their benefit then there's no convincing you otherwise. I know you're not dense enough to believe the average person you meet feels that way... and yes, the average person you meet is religious.

    good thread

particularly after the 1960s decolonization movements, it was the american evangelicals that started to make inroads to africa and other developing regions and they were supported by the “moral majority” GOP base of the time

i would like to say that things like homophobia, patriarchy, etc. are not purely western exports as sometimes it did exist within pre-colonial cultures but it was undeniably boosted by the west in its own image

I don't have disdain towards religion, nor do I think the average person is using it as a hateful cudgel, but I do think that there are hateful people in the world who are sincerely motivated by their interpretation of their religion, some people say 'People would have carried out those violent acts/held those hateful beliefs regardless', but I think that's a cop-out, you don't have to look far, particularly on the internet, to find people who want to limit people's rights because they genuinely believe it's what God wants

This might be a dumb and basic question but what did the west get out of exporting evangelical Christianity over there? And what do right wing American groups get out of sending 10s of millions of dollars to African nations to spread Christianity? Obviously them spreading and sewing seeds of right wing and oppressive evangelicalism is in their wheelhouse but what is it about that happening in Africa that benefits them?

(It sounds like I’m denying that this is happening by asking, I’m 100% not lmfao. I just would like to better understand the wests motive in doing this because I’m sure it wasn’t entirely philanthropic no matter how much the optics are ‘spreading faith’. I’m just having trouble finding the realistic reasoning)

dude no one is saying that religion is inherently bad or evil

What I am saying to you is historically using religion to solve the worlds problems has only created more problems than it started with

I grew up in church, I’m not talking from a place of 0 experience lol

Are you an idiot? Comparing two different populations and the entire point is that the control group had nearly half of their population (queers) be religious. That's a large amount within itself, why would your dumbass compare it to the general population? These niggas gotta hide being gay, you think they don't also hide being religious? The first trans person I met was a hardcore catholic that literally hated trans people lmao

    (queers)

I was just reading about sexuality in the Roman Empire. They didn’t have concepts of h****and heterosexuality. Alpha men f***ed both genders at will. Women and receiving men were betas. It was an alpha beta system not a straight gay system. Would have sucked to be a beta and have some alpha come f*** your face whenever he wanted

But yea no concept of gay. Men were expected to f*** men,
