You can be great at a technical skill without having the necessary extraneous perspective to build great works of art
100%, and most rappers these days are terrible artist, and passable rappers most of the time.
he has one classic album in rodeo, one classic mixtape in DBR and one really good mixtape in owl pharaoh
its not that crazy of a take
an "album artist" is like prime kanye or kendrick where its just classic after classic
Astroworld out now man

nah they think as long as the production is good and Travis keeps a consistent vibe throughout the project it makes him an album artist
surprised they don’t call Carti an album artist
niggas hear some distorted synths and don’t know what to do with themselves
They can’t vibe with the ultra-quotable lyrics, wildly entertaining delivery, pristine production, attentively crafted masterpiece that is Yeezus..
i hate when rappers say they're not rappers. they try to minimize the genre as a whole
I hate that s*** so much

It's pretty fair to say that Travis is an album artist, that's actually one of his strongpoints
He's never been the type to just throw random songs on an album with no cohesion like Views and TLOP
And then you have those special guys like Ghostface Killah, who fully respects rapping as an art form, and fully understands what "rapping" is. Therefore, he's able to bend the genre at will, without ever taking it fully left field, everything Ghostface does is 101% Hip Hop
There’s 16 other songs on that album
but only one song the average person can name + one song that was carrying all of its streams past a certain point. and its not like that one song was a travis solo cut
maybe throw cant say in there as a cult favorite that helped blow don toliver up
not saying sales are everything but if we want to talk about an album being a "classic" I think impact on the public matters
Astroworld out now man
he’s crazy travis is in that conversation for sure.
…whether he’s a leader in that conversation is a different story

Oh from that perspective yeah I agree
I dont think TLOP has "no cohesion" though I think the problem with TLOP is that it precipitated kanye genuinely losing his focus and mind so people just lump it in with the lazy bullshit we got after it
Listening to yeezus rn
i am a god production is fire I take back that it’s ass but goddamn Kanye is silly on here
Kanye is highly overrated, in many ways
he’s crazy travis is in that conversation for sure.

Yeah ok I agree that if we say album artist = being intentional and thoughtful about your albums then travis is an album artist
“X is the better rapper, Y is the better artist” :vlosereave:
super dumb s***
they’ll throw rapping under the bus to prop up their fav at a moment’s notice like rapping isn’t an art lol
it’s cool if it was just contained to comparisons for music but they usually do it in the context of who’s better overall
Oh from that perspective yeah I agree

TLOP has a lot going on
Compared to albums like Yeezus or 808s that have one singular sound pretty much throughout
Oh from that perspective yeah I agree

the focus of tlop is that it’s his autobiographical statement. it’s basically his own self titled
They're musicians but some are better at being musicians than others
This has been true in hip hop forever, same with all genres. The disparity has always been bigger in hip hop
And then you have those special guys like Ghostface Killah, who fully respects rapping as an art form, and fully understands what "rapping" is. Therefore, he's able to bend the genre at will, without ever taking it fully left field, everything Ghostface does is 101% Hip Hop
Same with Doom
