Igor really sounds a lot more like andre and kanye to me than pharrell

Im not even saying the album is original i just think comparing it to pharrell is lazy

A Boy Is A Gun, Puppet, Are We Still Friends production reminds me directly of Kanye Pharrell was never the direct soul sample type at any point in his career. I think even reminds me of stronger as far as the how the song progresses

And to me a lot of the sound like Gone Gone, Running Outta Time, New Magic Wand etc genuinely reminds me of The Love Below

Outkast and Andre’s influence never gets mentioned when they inspired a lot of alternative artist

not really. igor stunk too much of pharrell. even that call me when you turn 18 album that whole thing was evidently a lousy copy of in my mind prequel with some wsg influence

Yeah, again this just feels like a lazy criticism to me. It’s like saying Rodeo is a lousy copy of Yeezus and therefor can’t be great on it’s own merits.

I live in Michigan so I’m biased but that project didn’t do s*** to boost any of our rappers careers, it’s definitely not a bad tape tho he was spitting on there. Idk anyone on his label and think his friendship with Drake is hilarious and has only made drakes music worse (Jumbotron s*** poppin is incredible tho)

Nothing to do with his skill as a rapper, more to do with how he carries himself as an artist and a self proclaimed spokesperson for the new gen.

Lest we forget, he s***ted on rap during the press run of lets start here.

Hes really close with drake allegedly but didnt want to risk being on his side during the height of the beef after latching onto him heavy beforehand, granted iirc he said kendrick is his all time fav so i get it but the centrism still looked funny to me personally.

Plus we all know the whole ian thing.

All this is subject to opinion so i cant really convince you if you are a big fan. But to me, i dont know where he stands with his true views on music and thats a problem

Saying tyler takes a lot of influence is a fair criticism but i just hate when people act like its only pharrell when he directly takes influence from Kanye and Andre all the time

And while we’re on the topic Missy too, shes another who always gets left out

Man, the entire genre is filled with Kanye-isms and Atlanta influence. That’s just how music (and all art, really) works. I’d be pressed to find any body of work that felt 100% “original” and without any direct influences.
