Jpeg is a weird case bc he’s older and probably kills off opportunities for brands and bigger acts and s*** to work with him because of how he acts online / but he absolutely could pick up in a childish gambino type lane (black nerd ish lyrics and crazy electronic beats that can be hits every now and then) if he cared to / made a few key choices

People say they want new unique artists but it’s just to complain, the same way everyone was saying hiphop was dead while Wayne was on a run bigger and more versatile than Jay or any OG ever did.
The public doesnt know what they want and actively undermine it until it’s fed to them mostly via a cosign from someone theyre used to. Trust me I make unique QUALITY music and even my close friends pretend theyre too occupied to not skip past it everytime lol.

Maybe if the solidified artists collabed with the underground full of 454s or even just the lyricists like MachHommy putting work to carry the old craft of writing and album-crafting they used to know so well instead of the Durks and Nardo Wicks, then there would be more alternatives/creativity and a domino effect that inspires the Durks to compete outside their redundancy and craft classics, but they get more (maintaining popularity) out of whatever clone just had a big song and whatever generic beat can bang in an ATL club. Or even worse, they’ll just take and never pay homage (cough cough I can name a big song from a big artist that I’m 100% sure he typed underground artist name type beat and now it’s seen as his style)

Teezo who I respect for his uniqueness and have been following for YEARS is the rare alternative that got put into limelight by a cosign that of course had to be from Tyler, the only big name similarly as avantgarde in being himself.
After the catapult of 2 whole tours with the BIGGEST artists from that, barely made a dent in the game even with everyone and their mom claiming for years they want something unique if I ask people if they even check Teezo out theyll say no. When Drake posted him all of his comments got blown up with “this is trash” and those people will skip over whatever else they see from that 1st impression even though he has songs and potential in so many styles.
