Okay Kendrick is a better example for this point I just dont wanna use him bc he still is building his catalog
But I feel like theres a difference between a rapper who doesn’t make beats but arranges the production of every song on there album from scratch vs a rapper who just gets the beats and raps on them as is (Nothing wrong with either) but that is literally technically being a producer, but I do get you they aren’t making beats but outside of rap there are lots of legendary producers who didn’t make beats.
I’m not trying to take away from Ye at all, I think he is a very good choice for best rap artist of all time I just f***ing hate all this level above s*** or nobody close
Kendrick and Hov can go toe to toe with Ye as artist, i get they dont make beats but they still are artist on the same level imo they do s*** Ye could never do, and I feel like we all are reasonably understanding of that in Ye’s case but don’t grant the same grace to Dot and Hov and at the end of the day that comes off like downplaying song writing when song writing on that level is just as impressive and important of a skill as production and thats how I feel from the bottom of my heart but we can agree to disagree
