Most of the greatest rappers of all time were not also spearheading the production on their best albums.
It’s the same reason why Tyler is so revered. If Tyler wasn’t handling the production on his albums, it would be a lot less impressive
I hate that argument and perspective so much
Kanye is not an elite lyricist and also has writers but he’s still a top tier rap artist because he makes great art
Same should apply for great rap artist who don’t produce, its just a blind spot in their artistry it doesn’t mean they aren’t top tier artist. Every artist has blind spots or something they don’t do

I mainly listen to rnb. There are many facets of rnb where one song will sound completely different to another.
If you think of hip hop being multiple sounds, then limiting him to hip hop is okay. I don’t really see it as problem or reductionist. It depends on how you look at hip hop
