I do gotta say there was definitely white kids saying nigga and f word in OF fandom but there was definitely more diversity in the fanbase than people would think
There were definitely a lot of OF fans who thought tyler was annoying af, its also not like Goblin was just loved by every OF fan it used to be a common thought that B****** was better lol
oh yeah i’m not saying they didn’t exist, that’s inevitable. and the s*** he would say and let slide def played a role in that.
but to reduce tyler and OF and their impact to just the stupid ass s*** tyler would do and say is kind of inaccurate

Its funny people who admittedly didnt pay attention to odd future tryna argue with people who were deeply entrenched in the fandom the whole time
its definitely more nuanced than how people are painting it
Niggas not even tryna say tyler innocent that nigga guilty asf but people are saying some s*** thats straight up false lmao
Man, y'all don't know how to think lol
what does this even mean? lol
you said you disagree but can’t say how or why at all
i give you two examples of artists who have only ever empowered us still getting disrespected by white fans and all you can say is “man yall don’t know how to think” lmao

you feel me?! i’m not even tryna make excuses for bro he was bugging. but niggas not recollecting this s*** in an accurate way idk lol
and like you said if you weren’t really into that wave like that you probably not gonna be able to grasp the nuance of it all
It's a lot Tyler fans being dishonest about why Black people weren't rocking with him.
It wasn't necessarily the horrorcore lyrics. We've had plenty of rappers who were still popular despite the violent lyrics towards women or lyrics mentioning/praising Satan. Eminem, Geto Boys, Three 6 Mafia, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Tech N9ne, Gravediggaz, and to some degree Wu Tang Clan all exist and got popular off that. S***, we had rappers casually rapping about raping women (pregnant or otherwise) throughout the 90s and 00s and those artists were beloved. Biggie, Pimp C, Eminem, Big Pun, Big L, etc.
What made Black people not rock with Tyler in particular is how there was a clear underlying anti-Blackness behind his music and internet trolling that attracted racists towards him. An air of "I'm not like these other Blacks, I'm better than all these ghetto Blacks" when he'd speak about his contemporaries. The f***in Sambo shirts he was selling. The white nationalist and Nazi imagery he'd use for merch and graphic designs. Also doesn't help that he'd encourage his majority white fans at his shows to say nlgger. Along with attacking other well known and popular Black media spaces and figures. Like son was straight up calling Spike Lee a nlgger unprovoked back in the day
Until he gets honest and acknowledges THAT part of his career, he can't be mad that those are the kinda people who have engaged with his music/career.
You're right. I saw it in real time. He kinda casually brushed it off on some "I'm not on that type of s*** no more" but never fully made it right with folks. Now he makes music my mother would listen to. But she couldn't back then.
He would rave about people like Brandy and Monica in an interview, but had certain rhymes that rubbed black people the wrong way or would drop those shirts a few weeks later.
I f*** with his music but I'm not gon act like this s*** didn't happen.
yeah because spike lee was going off about them saying nigga too much in django lol
it was obviously a shock value bar about a controversial headline. you don’t remember all the s*** in the news about spike calling out tarantino around that time?
i personally wouldn’t have said what tyler said but you’re ignoring the fact that this dude was saying ridiculous s*** about everything and everybody and was hardly being taken seriously
like i said tho, at the same time time tyler was also constantly giving his fans history lessons in black art regardless of what other nut s*** he said/did
pretending this dude never cared or showed love to black legends is crazy bc that’s not ever how it was lol
Lol explain him selling Odd Future merch with blackface imagery?
Even Syd told the nigga foh

Was an insane thing to put out esp in the BLM era
Enlighten us then nigga
In 2010 Tyler specifically was using white culture as his own, shown by the imagery on his earlier merch. Whether it be jokes, used of slurs, and/or anti-religion. He's a half African Black kid that grew up in the 90s/00s, he's been in the middle of anti-blackness his entire life
I've been a fan the whole time so I knew he'd grow out of it but anecdotally I've seen how anti-black both sides of him are

I agree with you actually
I always been the same way. Im a long time fan but always thought his anti black culture s*** was annoying. I was so happy when he finally dropped it im like one of the og niggas who fully embraced his switch up
Honestly interesting conversations in here. Never was into that OF era/phase in my life admittedly thought it was corny at that time but I also find him sincere in his distain for some of the stuff that he do tbf play a part in cultivating. Unfortunately I don’t think he will ever distance himself from those types of fans because just tbfh he’s already got that moniker on him of those types of hip hop fans that just seems like an easy entryway for white folks. Probably should’ve just known in this climate it’s better to keep your mouth quiet when you have skeletons in your closet whether that’s fair or not

But I'm not gonna play him because at least he's always been respectful to the art and cultivated his own at a high level. That's what made me have me confidence he was just acting out. Current day Tyler is in a great place culturally but he does have to take accountability on the earlier narratives and themes of his music, but he good money in my book

I get 100% why people have issues with him but i feel the same way. I don’t think hes nearly as bad of a person as people are tryna paint him to be but he also hasn’t done a great job addressing this directly so I cant really defend him either but personally ima always fw him

Tyler's lack of feeling accepted by black people left him with a chip on his shoulder, which can clearly be seen in a lot of his creative endeavors at the time. And the only amount of accountability that he's taken regarding that is under the guise "that was 15 years ago"
That is why this will always be the response to him expressing shame for the white audience that he's cultivated. Meanwhile people Earl and Syd don't have that problem because they've made it a point not to p****foot around it like Tyler has.
Tyler was an advocate for allowing white people to say the n-word:
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXMxTwlRRko&list=RDJXMxTwlRRko&start_radio=1!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moo3afIOIOU!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUBM53OncQQBut this is apart of the diaspora that is dominated by anti-blackness. While yes he is also a Black-American, part of him is still African. Black and African cultures aren't 100% interchangeable so him not understanding that while he was young, (no father), probably allowed the space for him to be prone to anarchic emotional outbursts
This was moreso a fight within himself that got projected through the art, mainly because he was young and ignorant
But him not owning when and where he was wrong like you said, will always bite him in the ass when he's trying to be contrite about any issue
Lol explain him selling Odd Future merch with blackface imagery?

i’m assuming you haven’t seen the posts of me saying he was bugging for that. i’m not explaining s*** cause he’s an idiot for that. i’ve never defended that bullshit.
i’m speaking to this idea that his shock value era is the sole reason that his white fans in 2025 don’t respect black legends. everybody’s white fans don’t know how to act it’s not just tyler.
plus so many tyler/odd future fans were annoyed with his bullshit even back in the early 2010s. he didn’t cultivate this racist fandom the way yall are saying lol. these current kids acting an ass are from a whole different era. these kids prolly never even heard an early tyler song in their lives lol
i just think the problem with how whites interact with our art is way bigger than this isolated incident. it’s not really unique to tyler so i’m not pointing the finger strictly at his shock value and stupid decisions.

my only thing with this is i feel like earls personal accountability is really exaggerated
i feel like he always talks about it like its weird but doesnt talk about himself like he was weird

This. Can even see it in the tweet a few posts above yours. "MLK had some speeches and oh yeah it was a couple of slaves" is crazy phrasing even if you're trying to say what kids are taught in school isn't enough
Insane
There needs to come a point where he can't hide behind the "I was just making s*** I thought looks cool" s***
Like you can make dope art without it being KKK/blackface related

Tyler wasn't even raised in an African household tho, like he had no real exposure to African culture in his formative years
