House music was created by black Americans in the midwest
SA HOUSE MUSIC EVOLVED FROM KWAITO NOT THAT 💀 KWAITO WAS SLOW AND THEY SPED UP THE RHYTHMS AND ADDED SINGERS INSTEAD OF RAPPERS WHICH WAS THE CASE WITH KWAITO
KEY WORDS "would be considered black in America" but she's not from America, she's from SA and SA has coloured people who are their own, just because she's in America doesn't mean she has to claim blackness because she isn't. That would f*** s*** up for her here.
I’m just explaining you Americans side of the argument. And I never said she has to claim blackness. Wasn’t even talking about Tyla specifically in my comment. Just someone with her general appearance/skin color.
Y’all want us to respect your culture and social frameworks then respect ours too. It’s a two way street.
100% agree.
Thats the worst thing ever, your trying to market to black people, but you have the gall to say "you have me all wrong, im coloured, im not like you" its s***head thinking for an artist trying to indentify with African Americans. The consumer has a right to check her, cause its not her job to necessarily educate black people on an obscure nationality.
Does she see herself as black in America, is all that matters, in America
Yeah and it also incorporates American elements
Have you ever listened to SA house it's not the same as Chicago house and Detroit house that come from there, they sped kwaito rhythms then continued to refine it creating many subgenres.
this is such a twitter ass topic
these ppl who are asking her to put on for black americans are not here they're basically all on twitter
op having ktt argue against ppl not even here, no wonder this is getting nowhere

lmao sa's openly say their house scene was inspired by the midwest

If these genres are so unique why are they all just “African/South African (insert American genre here)”? Obviously they put their spin on it
The only reason we are having this discussion is because you generalized african americans as ignorant and self centered you weirdo
The material is materializing and continues to, I don't know what else to say to you.
Let that girl be whatever she say she is
Who gives a s***
Seems like those folks did
I think he'd just be a black American in South Africa, like I said trying to force these into one is never gonna work
It's literally this entire thread in reverse 😂 we won't call him coloured here

Cope tbh
Seems like those folks did
Don't say just those folks cause you did too making this thread which has 0 to do with music
The material is materializing and continues to, I don't know what else to say to you.
You don't have to say anything anymore. You made yourself look foolish by stereotyping african americans
Calling this girl "Coloured" in America, damn near sounds like trolling, even if it is a real phrase in South Africa. Stop trying to crossover in America with black culture, if you feel your something else other then black, if its so important, and African Americans are so ignorant too it.
Being a "Coloured" seems to have racist/self hate undertones exclusive to South Africa anyway. Don't come to America with that, if you want to sell to black people.
Her entire thing has been AFRICAN her music has been AFRICAN.

Then call her African if it is an uncomfortable thing but she is a coloured girl, SA black culture and coloured culture intercept

What did she do to cross over with black culture?
When she's physically in America she'll be called Black.
When she's physically in SA she'll be called coloured.
It's online where things get confusing, hence the back and forth. But it's honestly all relative to the culture speaking on it.
In short, it's not really a fight online. It's just different perspectives on the same thing based on cultural lens.
this is a fascinating discussion that i don’t know is being talked about enough
as the legitimacy of social media spaces increase year by year (exponentially after covid) what does it mean?
i am unsure if we are ready to face the consequences of this and evolve from it.
cultural appropriation stuff is so tricky, and it seems like that was just the first steps towards a larger dissonance. one’s physical geography is playin less and less of a role in their cultural identity.
i’ve thought about this as it relates to politics and zoning, but haven’t made the connect with race yet this directly. something to think ab
