There’s something to be said about how zoomers have this irresistible urge to nostalgize everything especially corny music like Black Eyed Peas type s*** but have this visceral, negative reaction reaction at the perceived corniness of “stomp clap” movement ,

while i dont disagree with you in a vacuum, you (not you specifically just more generally) cant say this and also complain about hip hop becoming more white in turn. you either have loose cultural segregation through stomp clap pop-folk music and micro-breweries who vote for obama or you have white ppl on the playboicarti subreddit, morgan wallen lil durk collabs, and ian on billboard. there is no inbetween

white ppl always been into hip-hop though

but back then it was either you were into popular s*** or underground s*** only like backpacker rap and aesop rock and rhymesayers and jedi mind tricks i guess

the stomp clap hey (this, mumford and sons, etc) and stadium pop rock movements (imagine dragons, etc) were literally directly responsible for the death of predominantly white normie-centric pop culture for better or for worse
like yes we have stuff like morgan wallen now and sub-cultures like hyperpop but neither compares to how inescapable the above were in the early 2010s and how pervasive they were culturally. there is a direct line between stomp clap hey and $30 millennial burger & IPA microbrewery pubs in small towns. there was a direct line between y2k music and nyc dance clubs etc etc

ipas, bad mustaches, stomp clap hey music, ukuleles, overpriced fixie bikes, suspenders, smash burgers.

i mean mainstream stuff tho. white people who were into hip hop was always considered distinct enough it was considered an entire identity in and of itself. the reason eminem was so controversial was basically because he was white and mainstream. kids wanting to listen to rap because they were "represented" as terrifying to white america because most ppl were listening to like, contemporary pop, alt rock, or like, nsync. even liking eminem was considered distinct from liking rap (actually still is). same w underground rap (rhymesayers / etc) and s*** like ICP. it was considered a very specific distinct subculture. liking rap now and being white is just like yeah i would assume so by default

  • Aug 6, 2025

I think anyone who has willingly listened to white music after 2000 is a racist. I just can’t imagine listening to music like this

Indie folk is the worst genre ever
