Buckle up, empty your mind, and enjoy what’s give to you. Incredible piece of art
season 1 complete.
loved everything but the finale, which felt like a student film in a bad way. mark frost cannot direct.
who here has read the books? which are your favorites
Secret Diary of Laura Palmer is pretty great. does a wonderful job of fleshing out the character more, Laura's relationships with the people in the town and just her thoughts. Jenn Lynch understands Laura really well and it actually feels very raw and personal, she was just 22 writing the book and clearly building on her own experiences as a teenage girl. it came out before S2 but she knew who the killer was. the audiobook is read by Sheryl Lee which is a big plus too I love her voice sm.
also really enjoyed Secret History, again a really great audiobook with lots of actors from the series, I loved that there's so many little stories within stories and read by different people. I also have the physical book though and it's really beautifully made tbh. it does a really fun job of deepening the lore of mysteries and of some characters, plus connects with some real world conspiracies lol. it arguably does go silly a bit and is basically fan fiction, Lynch wasn't involved at all and doesn't connect with S3 a ton although it does ofc build on the years of writing on the script together.
I would say only the series and film is proper canon to the story, Secret Diary I think 90-95% fits that lore too, in Secret History it gets much more loose and contradictory tbh and even with the vibe it's going for goes in a lil different direction I'd say only like 75-80% fitting the series, it really goes deep on conspiracies and UFOs etc and integrates that sort of convincingly. it does have a spooky mysterious charm of its own, at points it feels a bit cheesy and more x-files than twin peaks, but you do sense that Frost genuinely had fun writing it and just flexing his storytelling skills.
I honestly hated The Final Dossier, it's really brief and feels hamfisted giving some vague hints at stuff that I honestly didn't care for at all and some bits felt super contradictory and out of character. Secret History while also fan fiction-y at least did this whole big setup and had the stories within stories thing and with that a creative and unique format and engaging stories, and the characters from the series are fairly convincingly the same. Dossier really felt like a money grab after History sold well.
I also listened to the Diane tapes and found them very nothingy and boring, not very well written with some forced references and not much more. Cooper's Biography is also written by Scott Frost so I never even bothered with it tbh.

Haven't read the Final Dossier yet even tho I own it but heavy agree with everything you said about The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer
Probably the best supplementary reading for Twin Peaks.
When you first get into Twin Peaks you would think it would be the history books though
S2E1 was exactly as batshit crazy as I was hoping it'd be.
my fav episode of the original run tbh

amazing ride.

TP is definitely best when directed by Lynch, in the second half of S2 he took a longer break and it gets more soapy... but he does return for a batshit finale and then you have Fire Walk With Me and S3 entirely directed by him and especially with S3 he had way more creative freedom and really went all out. you're in for a wild ride

Been meaning to come back here!
So can’t lie, liked s1 a lot.
Then pretty much hated s2…
But like 6-7 episodes in… it became absolutely f***ing incredible.
A little more than halfway through 2 now, Coop was about to leave.
There’s something absolutely insane about this show and the performances within in.
Ray Wise man… Ray Wise.
