Iāve finally finished the 1.5 episodes in The Return I had left.
I have swirling thoughts about s3 and the show/experience in general. I feel that The Return has to be separated from FWWM and S1-2. Not in a bad way, not in a āthis isnāt the conclusion I wantedā type of way. My philosophy as a media enjoyer is to appreciate, trust, and respect the journey the creators want to take me on. Sometimes Iāll enjoy it and others I wonāt. A few times I have so much respect and equity built into the story (along with the nature of the story being told) that I will defend ambiguous or unpopular endings (ie GoT).
Here, I fall into the massive respect. The Return is its own beast that requires separate thought and consideration vs the 90s portion of the show. Everything about it deserves its own frame of mind to dissect. I love it because of that. Itās very cliche, but The Return is pure unbridled art on screen. Art that you grapple with, art that frustrates and confuses you. The 90s portion in my head feels separate than The Return. Almost like two different shows. Lauraās story is beautifully painful in the 90s portion, and The Return adds its own separate layers and puzzle pieces. I can have two different Lauraās like the show had in my head and I think thatās wonderful.
Iām starting an immediate rewatch of the series now. I really want to do the rewatch, and then watch the video in the second post along with some others.
In a way s3 anchored all Lynch's work into the same world. Somehow Eraserhead, Lost Highway even Inland Empire seem to exist within Peaks logical framework now.

His Dark Tower
Iām on the Find Laura theory train.
It offers a pretty compelling argument for the show. Is there some confirmation bias and stretch yeah, but it does seem to have some good explanations to the mysteries of primarily The Return.
I also bought the Wrapped in Plastic Selected Essays book that will be a companion piece during my rewatch that Iāve begun
tbh I have a strong suspicion that Lynch was neurodivergent, def got super autistic traits like the near insane obsession w routine, eating the literal exact same thing every day etc, but AD(H)D would also really check out just alone for the link w creativity and thinking outside the box - even the obsession with meditation which is one of the better ways to calm your mind w adhd. to be able to be high performing w adhd you have to compensate with very rigid routines also, which would display as autistic.
Dale Cooper for sure also displays suuper autistic traits. and ofc the character is a classic example of a director stand-in, down to the way he talks it's modelled after Lynch. a lot of his behaviour is honestly textbook for highly-functional, well masked or compensated neurodivergence. strong sense of justice, brilliant at solving riddles but despite his intelligence sometimes suddenly befuddled by simple social situations or generally acting like an alien, like he's completely in his own world. that kind of dreaminess but then also hyperfocus when it comes to the work he cares for would clock w adhd for sure. especially bc the autistic traits are still relatively subtle and a lot of it is more like quirky I'd say it's again pointing most strongly towards adhd.
I just rewatched the original run for the first time since getting diagnosed w ADHD myself and deep-diving into neurodivergence in general the past 2 years and I've just been noticing how often in my life I've been drawn to other people or media in which I recognize neurodivergent traits without even realizing it. you ofc can't diagnose people from afar and especially postmortem but it's very interesting for me, I have a high awareness for it now and it's a very interesting lens to study media with, especially when it comes to portrayal's before it was a widely understood thing.
just finished the return for the third time (it was my partners first time watching)
i had to rewatch the last two episodes. the way the last episode mirrors the first is so interesting the arm asking is it about the little girl down the lane is stuck in my brain
do we think that judy is in the house?
why did phillip ask āis this what you asked?ā when the ord was floating inside the 8?
i have so many thoughts. thank you lynch for everything

bc she repeats it it's like 911 tho no? I always read it as just a cry for help tbh

she says it backwards ( 1 1 9)
it absolutely could be a cry for help
i never know when im thinking too hard about these thingsā¦
today is the 35th anniversary of twin peaks pilot airing on ABC
really cool article about the show: vanityfair.com/hollywood/story/as-twin-peaks-turns-35-the-mystery-is-still-the-message
the myth of david lynch leaving during season 2 to make wild at heart has been debunked
he left during season 1
apparently he signed off on everything that happened in s2 which isn't surprising but some people still believe lynch had nothing to do with all that
7 episodes of The Return completed. Iām hearing Episode 8 is one for the ages. This revival hasnāt missed ONCE yet for me.

don't think there's a way to bring Twin Peaks back without David tbh. even the tie-in books that Mark wrote without him kind of suck ngl
but also S3 is kind of a perfect ending. still open-ended and leaving lots of questions but very satisfying

Agreed. Iād rather he just publish whatever story notes they had.

I agree. I think TP fans want to know what they could have been dreaming up. You also donāt have to incorporate it into the canon if Frost just releases some idea notes.
just watched s3e8
Never has an episode completely reset what a viewer thinks about a show like Part 8.
