His response was poor though so the hoax remark is still a false statement. Also when you hear him say it does come across as him saying that the virus itself is 'the new hoax' so it's not like it was a 'we're out to get Trump' thing from the media. He shut down the borders to China and Europe when democrats said it was xenophobic and “bad to do to our allies”. That might be the single most important thing he did in response to the virus early on and the left said it was wrong.

Everybody’s response to the virus has changed day to day because nobody knew wtf was going on. We were even told masks were ineffective by ~scientists~ so placing blame on Trump is stupid.
