    nah trust me too

but what you were saying before is facts. i’m way more scared now that white populism has a voice. trump is gone but that doesn’t mean the 74 million americans who voted for him aren’t. we got a big red wave coming and it will be the smartest most charismatic it has ever been in ages.

it’s lowkey only just begun lol

based on what? There is nothing that at all signals a right wing wave as of now, the GOP is eating itself alive and right wing populism hasn't looked this bad optics wise since Charlottesville (actually it looks much much worse)

germany lost world war 1 and their empire fell

after that, there were several blocs in german politics: monarchists who wanted a return of the old ways and the emperor, christians who wanted some sort of political centrism between old and new, the far-right who were nationalists and later nazis, the far-left who wanted council communism, and the center-left who wanted to regulate capitalism (social democracy)

the far left had a huge following, but the social democrats collaborated with the far right to kill far left leaders. there were street battles and riots for several years between these two factions.

the revolutionary momentum slowed down a bit, but the communists were still popular enough to get 10-20% of the vote depending on elections, and the social democrats had a strong faction who wanted democratic socialism.

hitler used this popularity of socialism to make his own version of it, named national socialism, which sort of is a welfare state for aryans only and has little to do with socialism.

the great depression hit germany and the far left and the far right got another boost while the center lost a lot of credibility

eventually, the industrialists of germany decided that hitler would be a better choice to support than the communists and the social democrats and put their weight behind him

hitler was supposed to be kept in check by the center-right but he had people arrested and killed, the communists killed, the social democrats intimidated, the center-rightists purged...

and then basically nazi germany started

i expect a tucker carlson type to combine right-wing views with vaguely socialist rhetoric (e.g. medicare for all) in the future and make a new attempt at "national socialism" in 2024

tbh i think the weimar public comparisons are a bit over-generalized and a closer comparison might be the Spanish Civil War especially since it was like fascists, nationalists, monarchists, theocrats, etc. who all loosely banded together vs an even looser collection of liberals, anarchists, communists, etc. (who likely wouldn't have been on the same side had there not been a mutual interest in defeating the opposition) and there was also significant foreign interest in the civil war. The lead into the Spanish Civil War was symbolic of so many things (religion vs secularity, revolution vs counter-revolution, class warfare, etc.) and the background leading up to it i think is a more apt comparison too
