My guess is Sal knew this a while back and has been hustling to get the replacement(s). I doubt this was news to them when she announced. Hopefully replacements announced soon to slow down resales.

demographically it would be best to get another female artist, plus replacing doja cat presents a unique challenge in that she's just big enough that she could probably already headline an arena tour and won't be an opener again for a while but not big enough to do a stadium tour. There's not many artists that are at that level right now.

very intrigued to see what they do. I was going purely for The Weeknd so it's no skin off my back but I know for a fact there's definitely ticket holders that are at least very disappointed with her dropping out

It's a unique challenge because of Doja's rise, and her fans were definitely upset. She's my fav artist of the new generation, but I think folks are overselling her drawing ability and underselling Abel's. I think maybe there are.....12,000-15,000 people upset that they wouldn't want to go or resell. They already sold maybe 700K tickets to this point so I think there will be some impact on resales, but not a lot.

Doja is a superstar in waiting but is unproven as a touring act. Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo are at the theater level, and Lizzo only now just doing arenas. Only person to parlay pandemic success to headlining arenas is Dua Lipa, and even that was somewhat of a gamble. As much as Doja dropping hurts for her and her stans, majority were still going for Abel.
