diff rappers are good at diff things

wayne can spit better than ye even though hes a worse artist

    He’s both

He has so many amazing songs. More than most artists have released. Yeah he got a lot of trash too but that doesn’t discredit his work. It just means there’s no censor to what he puts out. We all kno he doesn’t actually sequence and choose what to release himself

    He’s proven his talent

bro if he doesnt even sequence that s*** himself hes not as good of an artist as some1 like ye.

like look at yeezus theres a creative vision & idea behind it, and they executed thru the subject matter, minimalist prod, abrasive rapping etc

cant say the same for recent wayne joints

For example Dr. Carter is a great example of his. Tape wise though I can agree that he isn't too artistic, but there's a reason behind it

"you ain't got nuttin" had fabolus and juelz and lil wayne held his own.

def gets my respect for that.

Thats true, depends on what you think a great lyricist is. Hes great at storytelling, painting pictures. When you can do that and make the listener imagine/feel how you felt in that moment then youre a great lyricist to me. But he doesnt have any punchlines or double entendres and he doesnt cover a lot of subjects so I could also see why someone would say hes not a great lyricist

Im saying hes as good a song maker k& lyricist as anyone else

His creative vision and direction lacking. That’s another package to discuss though

Being a great song maker doesnt mean u have to have a B section playing bootleg funkadelic instrumentals and some phased alien voices over a filter

It means being good at making great songs

    Wayne is in both

Wayne doesn’t even pick his beats lmfao

    he literally just raps

As far as putting together cohesive tapes, I'd prefer artistry on the level of MBDTF. But as far as the overall love of the craft/Hip Hop, I feel inclined to choose Lyricist in line of Wayne. I don't even think I'd put Drake in a top tier artist list neither. Kanye? Yea

When I thought about artist I thought about one that could put together a whole song on their own (doesn't have to include production). So like hook, verses, melodies, lyrics, etc. Thats why I even put Wayne in Artist category since he hits those.

Nas is a great lyricist but not a great artist

Nas is one of the most artistically creative lyricists tbh.

He's not "artistic" in the singing or melodic sense, but hes able to write songs that go far beyond just being a good lyricist.

I Gave You Power, Rewind, and songs of that ilk are classic rap songs from a creative standpoint.

Even his albums are far too overhated as a whole.

That's not true. Wayne gets sent beats. What he doesn't do is choose a certain producer or in-house producer like in C1 era with Mannie Fresh.

A nigga down the street can be a top level lyricist but not everyone can be a top level artist
