I feel like this movie would only work if Cruise takes a backseat

I don’t know about this. Maverick was phenomenal. What it did for cinema and moviegoers is going to be difficult to replicate.

They made a top three legacy sequel. I’m skeptical, but it’s hard not to be excited given how great Top Gun: Maverick was.

rewatched this recently thinking 'what in the world they can make the third one about.' the entire premise of maverick is so contained and well-rounded that having all these people in a room 'for another one' would be mega strange
