alright y’all i got a theory about why camping right outside the restaurant you want orders from is actually not the best move

so say an order got placed long enough ago that the app expects it to be ready in a couple of minutes. obviously it’s going to be given to the person close to the store, not the person 5 minutes away(unless it’s a no tip that everyone close rejected), since they want the driver to get there right around when it’s ready

now think of the inverse. the app doesn’t expect it to be ready for a little while. who’s it going to give it to first, the person 5 minutes away, or the person right by the store? it would offer it to the person farther away first since the app is subtracting the time it’ll take them to get there from the time it’ll take to finish the order.

now i’ve done no research for this, but it makes sense that they’d do it. going off that, my strategy is instead of parking at a hotspot, i’ll park about a half mile or so away, in the direction of another hotspot so i can get orders from both. i started doing this a week ago and i don’t think i’ve gone more than 10 minutes without an order when before i’d have like a 30-minute dry stretch most shifts, sitting outside a hotspot. and i usually start the dash at like 2 when it’s not popping off like that either.
