Yeah, and her first album didn't perform like the label wanted it to because they tried to make her a popstar.

From there I feel like she's never really been able to get back in her bag. The last full project I enjoyed from her was Nightride which was her last true return to form.

I didn’t think she stood out as much in that lane, her music was good but just didnt connect w the general public for some reason

The electronic inspired pop field that she’s leaning more into is a legit style of music even if you’re not into it and she had inspiration on a lot of the artist within it & is doing very worthwhile attempts at the style herself now. This isn’t just some tiktok slop shes really going in and I think her artistry deserves respect even if shes not your style

Yes it’s legit style, but it’s just such a departure from who she is as an artist.

Anybody could make Melatonin. Theres nothing really unique about it, and that’s not a diss.

Tinashe used to have individuality to her. Now it just feels very generic/manufactured. And again - I get it. You get in the business to sell records and make money.

Is she supposed to do the same thing forever? I feel like she has a better understanding of who she is as an artist than you do, I really wish people could dislike music especially music that’s still high effort without disrespecting the artists craft or assuming their intentions. People are multi layered and she’s been showing an interest in this scene for at least the last few years with how her projects have been progressing.

Also NO, not anybody could make Melotonin its one of the best songs in that field within the last couple of years for sure.

Her substance used to be mature and have an abstract atmospheric feel to it. Now, she's singing about Broke Boys, Being Nasty, and other stuff. It kinda feels like a regression.

But if that's the lane that she (really) wants to go, good for her. Its just not for me, and I can acknowledge that.

Why would she be doing this to sell records? No artist in this scene even sells a lot of records this song isnt even gonna chart on billboard its not radio friendly. I’m kinda confused on what type of music you’re ever comparing this to because this is definitely much more of a underground niche scene and the song writing within it is much more simple but people are still able to tackle important topics just with a different approach, so maybe she does dive in on deeper topics on the album

You asked, "Why would she be doing this to sell records?" - Because she's in the music BUSINESS, lol. The goal is to get ROI (whether thats streams, views, partnerships, etc.) If that wasn't the case, she would drop free mixtapes.

There's so many artists I come across on my algorathym that are doing this EXACT sound (if not better). And once again, that's no diss to Tinashe. If this is the lane she wants to go - then more power to her. I just prefer her earlier work. I dont think there's anything wrong with that. We dont have to like EVERYTHING an artist puts out.
