    Yeah this was some heat

Right off the bat you can tell how creative the movie is gonna be, it’s really refreshing to see imaginative sets and vibrant colors in a major movie, as well as practical effects. Honestly even the moments with VFX’s looked great and didn’t feel jarring at all. I feel like some subplots got more love than others, there’s like 3 or 4 going on all at once. If it was any other movie I think I’d find it super distracting but I liked how every character got some attention (although Monica is more in the background then feeling like the main antagonist). Any moment with Beetlejuice is non stop hilarity and won my crowd over easily. It’s a stark difference between this and Burtons last film. I think the only thing I can really gripe about is the pacing, the middle section feels very fast paced. But other than that, can’t recommend it enough.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a really good time. It’s a fun return to this world full of beautiful practical effects, over the top performances, and Halloween vibes. Michael Keaton delivers another great performance as the title character along with some other zany performances from Catherine O’Hara and Willem Dafoe in particular. Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega are solid as well but their performances didn’t do as much for me.

All the stuff in the after life worked better for me than what was going on in the real world, but that’s not to say what was going on there was bad. The after life was full of (dead) life and had a fantastical element that made this so watchable.

I think this works as a good follow up to the original. It expands some of the lore of the first movie while delivering an entertaining adventure that stands on its own. It adds something new rather than retreading the original beat by beat. Tim Burton feels like he’s back and hopefully, he can keep it up.

Side note: The way Charles was handled was done well in finding a way to incorporate the character.

  • burton still has the sauce man, had an absolute blast with this!
