Found this article on a researcher who reverse engineered TicketMaster's stupid in-app/in-website only dynamic tickets.
Interesting enough on its own how he was able to replicate the ticket creation and exposed TicketMaster for building a crap system.
Even more interesting TicketMaster logs the token used to generate the "secret" when you enter the website.
Theoretically (this is not in the article) you could use a browser extension (either new or sneaking code into an existing open source extension) to get this information out of the console, and then use the information in that article to generate your own ticket. This would effectively allow you to steal a ticket from someone else aslong as they have your browser extension and they don't rotate out the secret (unknown how many rotations the secret is valid for).
"It’s pretty clear why TicketMaster is pushing this technology:
SafeTix makes it harder for people to resell tickets outside of TicketMaster’s closed, high-margin ticket-resale marketplace, where they make a boatload of money by buying low and selling high to customers with no alternative.
It pushes users to install TicketMaster’s proprietary closed-source app, which gives TicketMaster more insight into their users’ devices and behavior.
People can’t save and transfer tickets outside of Ticketmaster. This forces ticketholders to surrender their friends’ contact information to TicketMaster, who can use this data to build social graphs, or conduct other privacy-invasive practices."
And that's the real reason, no doubt. Even if the customer experience has to be downgraded, it doesn't matter because there's no other company to go to. They're literally like "Yeah, and what will you do about it?"
Scumbags
This proves even more when you consider that their implementation of the "rolling barcode" just consists of them putting a CSS animation over it LMAO.
They literally cut corners with function and lied about how it works just because
Was about to post a related article I had bookmarked but it was the same exact link lol. Hnews
