It’s still a high point for hip hop in the 2010s to me but it’s started to reach that point where i’ve overplayed it so much that revisiting it doesn’t really do anything for me anymore
This is the merch for Rolling Loud.. we definitely getting something today. Probably gonna play a song from the album and announce trailer drop date?

Yea i think i overplayed. I also think its a little derivative compared to his projects that came after it.
Like rodeo was what he wanted to create since he began making music, and for better and worse it shows

Definitely disagree about it being derivative but I feel you on over playing it
Every so many months of not listening to it I’ll go back and give it a listen, makes it feel a little fresher

Ehh, for me he was still looking towards other sounds at that time , atl and kanye/cudi for example.
Its not his fault, it was his debut, he was working with all the people who inspired him growing up, and he wasnt a seasoned artist yet.
But birds and astro was him truly finding his sound and using his influences in a unique way in my opinion. i listen to rodeo and i dont hear travis scott as we know of him today, i hear an ambitious young artist who is living his dreams and fully diving into that. Which again isnt bad. Rodeo is still classic. I just feel like he matured alot artistically since then

Interesting, where do you hear Cudi specifically?
Interesting, where do you hear Cudi specifically?
Theres a part in okay alright where he sounds damn near identical to cudi, its at the end of the verse when hes like "bitches scared mmm b****es scarreedd aawwwww" cudi moans n all. Id timestamp but im about to head out.
the first part of 90210 sounds like it couldve been on 808s and heartbreak. An album heavily indebted to cudi, (not to mention the homage to family business with the "ballin" sample chop in the beginning of the second half)
Pray for love sounds very 808s and heartbreak as well. the drums especially
Speaking of kanye, piss on your grave was supposed to be on yeezus
Never catch me is very cudi, especially with the hums and the beat.
The man on the moon 1 style spoken word interludes. But with TI instead of common.
Beyond that, theres travis emulating young thug on i can tell, specifically on the outro of the song.
He came across as a young talent that found success with his idols and polished the ideas from the owl pharoah that released on grand hustle/good music and the OG owl pharoah, both of which are basically kanye and cudi jr with a southern hip hop twist.
Rodeo still has flashes of the original sound he has created. Like impossible, flying high, apple pie (to an extent) p***ography etc. But as an album, even in its structure, is heavily inspired and indebted to his idols
This is why im so excited for utopia and why its amazing to hear him and his team say their trying to hone in on that sound again.
Cause now he has all these years and experience. And hes now a seasoned, mature artist who sounds like nobody but himself. Its gonna be crazy to hear what the mixing of the 2 sounds like.
