Over this, Travis Scott intones in a voice masked by Auto-Tune so consistently and heavily applied that it speaks to the alienation of the recorded voice — the impossible struggle to hear oneself truly, and the typical recoil — as well as the fact that emotions recorded can never be commensurate with phenomenological experience, particularly given that all language available for such expression is now stereotype.

Can’t think of how to formulate it but tbh I do think it somewhat stems from the fact these same people were 100% expecting an escape plan type album and when the sounds were totally different to what they expected they shifted to this criticism

Travis made an entire career without being the most lyrically profound artist, and he had the entire world eagerly anticipating his next studio album, now in the span of 5 days none of that matters and his lyrics make his music unlistenable?

Nah I really love most of this album but he never been known for being terrifically human in his raps. Every now and then we get something really beautifully written from him but unfortunately it’s a rarity lyrics wise.
