i get not liking the beats off srs but idk how u can listen to azucar or nowhere2go n not see some cool ass ideas being worked with
is any experimental music pretentious
It's kind of like too little not enough fleshed out for an artist like him.
it's definitely a starting point tho. nowhere 2 go is one of my songs off there to be real.
as far as experimental tho like i've said itt before this just not that experimental because we've seen artists and groups create an perfect these type of beats as well.

in what way would u say it's not fleshed out enough tho? if its about the beats being essentially just loops wit no chorus or whatever, this is something that he's already been experimenting wit like on tracks like bread wit alchemist. The whole albums was centered around brevity, saying all u need then leaving. For what the album was going for I think its perfect.
just wanna say the night nowhere2go came out i listened to it on repeat for more than an hour straight

I listened to nowhere2go for a bout a month
that's how I felt at the time tho
as far as fleshed out I mean the sounds are a start to something different but as it is right now. we've heard and thought about these topics before along with this same production. so it can be said that this is just Earl's rendition of something we've heard before.
but at least to me it's just not a individual stamp of wow this is something different. so maybe I was just expecting a lil more.
SRS did show leaps in Earl's pen game tho so I'm waiting on the next ones. (Feet of clay ain't it)

ook i see what u mean. I still feel like dudes sound was different enough on SRS to differentiate himself from dudes like mavi mike and em other slum's guys. All arts derivative
n ya i listened to east n turned that s*** off in like 10 seconds im not even touching feet of clay. dude experimented a lil too much lol
Not the biggest Earl fan but Grief first verse one of the best verses of the decade tbh

What albums are similar to SRS to the point where it bothers you?
What albums are similar to SRS to the point where it bothers you?
more so songs. but if we go albums.
we can go Vaudeville Villain.(this is more gritty/electronic tho instead of soulful distortion) Blu Jesus Ep , KNX beat tapes, standing on the corner, im gonna count the sLUms as kind of par for the course in this as well.
alot of production from madlib and alchemist goes with this as well.
It's also a lot of bedroom producers who make those types of distorted beats as well.
Earl having no quotables??????
“Of course my old lover was scorned we grow from it”
“It’s not a black woman i can’t thank”
“Too Black for the white kids too white for the black”
“Good grief, i been reaping what i sowed”
“It’s the rap monger rap monster earl sweat attack conquer” nigga that’s spanning multiple eras anyone who fws earl is gonna know them lines off top

all these lines are trash. Nobody would quote this s*** like ever. And that reap what i sowed sht is played out.
I dont stan any rapper. I said 69 has bangers which he does. That's all. You upset I'm criticizing rappers you like.
I don’t even listen to earl, I respect him, he’s defiantly not trash but his stuff has gone a little weird for me

The black woman line is quotable tho

what sounds like nowhere2go except other sixpress beats? Eclipse is otherworldly too
Guys be listening to the same 4 generic artists making "verse hook verse hook" songs and still be talking about bad songwriting

Most of those guys produce for earl, what point exactly are you trying to make? He’s not stealing the sound if those are the guys he has producing for him. And besides the beats does anyone else write like earl does? Don’t bring mike or mavi either, those are earls kids and really aren’t on the same level yet.

I just said it's nothing new and kind of par for the course. Didn't say he stole a sound but it's not like he's at the head of innovation either. So for us to laud it as some experimental album is kind of a big reach. Especially for a nigga in Earl's lane with his audience.
In every post I respected earl's pen game still think he's not finished developing his art. Which is crazy.
Also he's kind of Just stepping into his own after solace in terms of writing to be real.
al these f***ing spoken word rappers like earl and doom are hella overrated (not to say they make bad music tho)
it really isn't that hard to make metaphorical bars with a bunch of rhyming syllables if you pay no attention to melodies and consistent flow patters, this s*** is just poetry but it's really borderline music
Last week we did Lupe Fiasco. This week we will discuss Earl Sweatshirt.
Every week I will rotate between overrated and trash. I hope to have a serious discussion each week.
Earl Sweatshirt is trash for the following reasons:
1. He has zero quotables
2. His songwriting skills are mediocre
3. His flow and delivery is monotonous as hell. He always comes off as if he's just talking with no energy rather than rapping.
4. None of his albums are great and yet he's praised as some top tier rapper this decade. Never understood how anyone could claim dude has a classic verse. IDLSIDGO and Doris are decent at best with the former probably being his most personal and impressive project.
5. For a rapper that's praised as some technical MC, he's really weak in comparison to his peers that dropped this decade.
6. He isn't versatile at all. G Herbo did a song with him and flat out bodied him on it.
Discuss please.
I like Earl.

Imagine saying what he accomplishes in this song ALONE is easy to do, f***ing plebs
