After the fall of the USSR the armenian and Azeri frontier was drawn but a small population of Armenians got trapped inside Azerbaijan in a territory called Karabakh surrounded by Azeri people. So when armenia invaded Karabakh in the 90s to reunite their population they also invaded a large territory populated by Azeris.
Armenia wants the people of Karabakh to decide their faith and Azerbaijan wants to gain back territorial integrity.
It’s been 27 years and negotiations led nowhere so the Azeri government decided to attack Armenia even outside of the disputed territory.
What makes everything more complex is that Russia is an ally of Armenia but they don’t want to lose their good diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan (cause these are rare for Russia).
Meanwhile Iran is allied with Armenia and fear the day Azerbaidjan takes back control of the Armenian controlled territory because it will give the Azeris access to the Iranian border and since they’re allied with Israel it’s dangerous for Iran.
However a good portion of the Iranian population is ethnically Azeri so they can’t publicly help Armenia without their own people rioting.And of course there is Turkey helping Azerbaijan against Armenia for obvious reasons.

Ngl at first I thought Turkey and Iran together fighting against Armenia...and Israel would ally themselves with the West to help Armenia.
But this seems like a whole new conflict and everybody pretty much against each other

I'll be praying for the people of Armenia and Azerbaijan since it seems like this whole conflict has nothing to do with them other than big governments trying to gain more influence in the region.
Ofcourse the people will end up paying the price and suffer. Smh.

PolarizedOh this is definitely the start of WW3 ppl are just too blind to it, Iran started bringing Tanks into the Area, Russia is waiting on Armenians Borders and England has brought Warship and stationed it next to george in the Black Sea
it could escalate into a regional war but acting like there are conditions to turn this into another truly global war is pretty disingenuous
i have no loyalties either side as i'm not an expert but itt you've been painting an extremely complex geopolitical issue as much more black and white than it really is

It’s not invaded my dude 🤣 how can you invade land that you’ve lived on for thousands of years. Don’t listen to fake news
