    i think season 5 is interesting because there's a lot of parallels between david simon himself and Jimmy Mcnulty that season.

    He's so jealous of the success of Sopranos and Deadwood it's palpable. He's sensationalizing his own series to get people to give a f*** about the wire, in the same way tha Mcnulty's sensationalizing these random deaths to get people to give a f*** about west baltimore.

    Whether that really works or not, your mileage may vary but i do think simon succumbed to some baser instincts in his writing to get his point across that season

    Ehhh I won't engage with that then lmao but I'm vaguely aware of some of the budgetary frustrations that the show had leading to some production changes like with the cameras from Season 4 onwards.
