dyk if it’s true that every episode was written with 90 minutes in mind? that’d explain a lot of the cut content from the show
seeing this post now maybe you do know the cut scene im referring to. her and zion? idk if it would affect this specific interpretation tho
Not sure but I could totally see that
Just like how they supposedly said that Piper was written to lose her virginity to Zion near the end
I wonder what else was scrapped and cut
What I actually dislike about White Lotus is that the final departure episodes seem very rushed to me and certain mini plots are quickly resolved
Like in the 2nd season when the dude is just casually like "yea I got played" and that's it haha
goddammit i should read the thread before i post lol. i just finished the final episode and started posting
@Sir_Swagalot
i felt that way initially. but i think the reality is she's more like her family than she was letting on, and something she was probably grappling with, and it was being at the monastery for the night that really let it sink in for her
i definitely did have the train of thought of she's faking it to either 1)get away from loch, or 2) feeling it's her "thing" and she wants it to be only hers
but i think ultimately she's just like her family: unable to live simply. I also think mike white intended it to have it be viewed by people this way, and at the end of the day this is just my interpreation. her breakdown in front of timothy and veronica seemed pretty earnest and genuine though and her character wasn't a liar really. idk though. have you heard about the deleted /cut scene? maybe its already been discussed itt tho
I think we needed an additional scene to get a sense of her experience with the Buddhist group. Cause when she gives her reason, it sort of strikes me as like... Well, you fooled me. Cause I thought you were basically f***ing with it. Piper had to explain it to us, instead of letting us see it. It just feels like Piper is a little vague, and not in an intentional sort of way. Would have loved to have seen this season expanded by like an additional two episodes.
This season felt like it tried to sell itself as way deeper than what it really was but idk maybe that was the point. In the end nobody followed the beliefs they pretended to have. Nobody learned anything or did anything to prove they experienced any growth there. Just like anyone that goes to Thailand really
i think the big appeal of the show is at the end of the day:
watching rich mostly unlikeable f***s either meet their demise, cheat on their partner, estrange themselves from their family, fumble a girl or guy, etc.
its just rich people sucking (pause). and mike white does a damn good job at making us feel like oh yeah, that character sucks, or this one sucks, cause like at the end of the day, the whole laurie, jaclyn, kate, they all sucked. ratliffs sucked. rick sucked (but i like goggins) etc.
exceptions are like: belinda and zion (but even they could be argued to have sucked or been bad), chelsea, and the hotel staff.
but arguments could probably be made for all of them as to how they suck lol

yeah, im with you there. i just am hard pressed to feel like loch, who she seemed closest with and had a bunch of interactions that betrayed that closeness to him/connection with him, would be the reason she didn't stick with the monastery plan.
im interested in what stuff was cut that would or could have been relevant to her decision, or if mike white just wanted it to be like "viewer decides" type thing
originally didnt like this season tbh but after finishing i came around

i guess the sudden left turn made sense considering her background. it just felt a bit jarring to me at first considering my initial impressions

exactly. like you mentioned, a couple scenes in the temple would’ve helped so much

i think it’s the fact that it’s her journey and that she is the reason why the trip is happening in the first place. she lied to her parents about the motivation coming to thailand…who’s to say she lied about about leaving thailand?
if it’s true that piper just didn’t fw the temple because of her one night there, i’m lowkey kinda disappointed. yes it would fall in line with her privileged upbringing, but imo the clues that i interpreted painted a whole other picture. and like @Jonboi said, more buddhist scenes would’ve been welcomed.

They all sucked in a particularly anti climatic way. Like "uk what im not cut out for this hero’s journey bs lets go home"
“you’ll see when she’s meditating she lights a candle and it’s diptyque candle.. she loves the finer things in life.. she is her mothers daughter at the end of the day”

acting like she's so above the wealth and privilege while dressed in ralph lauren and jimmy choo

hmm i see what you mean. but like you said its her journey, and probably one she set off with as partially a way to just "get away from her parents" because she seems to be the type of rich/wealthy/priveleged person kind who's not just unwilling to admit she's rich/got it good, but wants to go as far as she can to show she's not like her peers, or family in this case, and thinks shed be willing to try something as radical as living at the monastery for a year, until she realizes it'd be much easier said than done
I agree tho, it does feel kinda dissapointing, but in a way the monastery stuff seemed like it was most important for timothy, and pipers taste/test stay was just a conduit for him to get a taste of the lessons the monk was willing to teach, setting up the pina-colada stuff?
i do think more/longer scenes would've helped to show stuff, and im interested if there was actually deleted scenes relevant to the monastery stuff or even anything adjacent that would show her being just as rich in spirit as her family etc?

mannnn i just peeped that vid @proper posted and ykw i believe yall now lmaooo. now i’m even more mad about the situation
the scene they cut out on the beach would’ve explained sooooo much.
but yes i do agree the monastery played a nice role for tim…that felt like a f***ed up journey in itself

Still crying at this
This as an excuse for jerkin off your bro is sociopathic behavior

people already complain about how slow-paced this season was (can't relate) but based on all of the scenes they had to cut i genuinely think it would've benefited from at least 2 more episodes
