It’s been a minute since I’ve heard these, why does this feel like purgatory? What about it for you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and reasons, and of course in more than just a few sentences, this is something I’m very intrigued by as Dawn is one of my favorite projects of Abel’s and one I find to be his most cohesive.

Also hidden in the backing track for every angel is terrifying is someone saying “you’re in the hospital” which is a neat easter egg that provides context for the character. Basically the whole album is taking place in his mind/soul while in intensive care, presumably following “until I bleed out”

Certain tracks definitely embody this more than others but I think the best example is Tale by Quincy. It’s very minimalist and spaced out with the occasional vocal snippet, as if you are in another dimension but still having some sort of connection to our world, a limbo state (aka purgatory). For somebody who played the hell out of the album before these backing tracks were even released, it feels familiar yet a little off and vice versa. If a purgatory like state exists, this is the feeling I would imagine it would have.

However, I also realize this could probably be done to any album and have that weird vibe to it but given the themes and production style of dawn, I think it’s a really cool way to dig deep into the album and experience this world. It also kinda sounds like a bad radio signal at times which also perfectly fits the theme. Maybe I’m digging way too deep into this but god I love this album

Yeah the concept was clear but the actual hospital sounds were not something I heard in the actual mix before the backing track was isolated. Maybe my ears aren’t as sharp as some others
