This take ain’t it. Weeknd started his career by being more aligned with hip-hop than pop. He was giving features to people like Drake, Wiz Khalifa, and Rick Ross way before he ever jumped on a pop artist’s song.

You may not like the trap features but to say that the the white pop artists are more “him” is just wrong imo

The retconning of him being a pop girlie over the entire scene he came up with is strange lol

You’re acting like once he went pop he turned his back on rappers. That would’ve been selling out, he ain’t do that

brother, the argument was that at this stage of his career, he should be collaborating with singers/interesting producers/artists and not sleepwalking through generic trap beats.

He’s not aligned with that and never really has been lol

Isn’t future his most frequent collaborator? Followed by Travis? Ariana is his only real frequent pop collaborator and there’s obviously a reason for that

    right

and i think a big issue in modern fandom in general is stans projecting what they would prefer an artist to do on the artist and then getting disappointed when it doesnt happen

theres a bunch of stans that seem to be fans of what they think the weeknd could be rather than what he actually is
