I don’t think he has any say in how it’s labeled. Even Honestly, Nevermind was labeled as “Dance”, there’s no reason that any of his music post-MDM is still being categorized as R&B. This is pop music

Something feels so amateurish about this mix/instrumental. Like as a producer, I am questioning why it feels like a bunch of loops, even the little drum fill. This isn't a huge issue with most Max Martin songs with the weeknd.

Ultimately, it feels like they didn't add the organic textures (some soft pads or piano underneath the main synth line for example), which would have gone nicely with the synth arpeggio. Especially at the start of the song, which just feels empty, especially between the vocals.

The worst part is the weeknd's vocals sound amazing.

The song is still great at the core, and I think it's a 7-8/10. But the potential was wild for this song. I'd love to be a fly in the wall when they made the decisions to keep the instrumental so sparse.
