Able is big on visuals and wants to put his best foot forward for this era, and I think the consensus on the video is that it was underwhelming.
I think the only thing that would stop it is if there is some type of contract with Apple that forced the current one to be the ONLY one.
Not that the video was that bad, but when I watched it, it felt like a teaser to a real video rather than the video itself.

Song is good, and he is a music artist first and foremost, so I’m taking this as a W either way

“Too clean” is a good describer for it.
I love Max Martin, but I notice that some of his mixes are so polished and clean that it sometimes feels a bit sterile.
Still though, I think Able’s songwriting and vocal performance saves it for me

Blinding Lights had more punch in the lowend and also that thundery urgent drive when it leads into the last chorus

Part of the reason why I am a dirty Trilogy/Kiss Land fan is because there is so much variation in song structures on those projects.
One song will be a lowkey, ambient, moody thing with a poppy hook and rap feature (The Zone), followed by an energetic, soaring number with a drum line of all things (Birds Pt 1) followed by a very formless, but also very emotional, almost collage of sound (Birds Pt 2).
I love After Hours and Dawn FM, but while there is still some variety, I feel like many of the songs can be easily described as “pop songs” without needing much more description.
That makes sense, since he’s a pop star now, but I sometimes miss the old ways.
