Ya'll think him or the label panicked after dawn fm sales and went this safe route?

    ya they really went:

    • let's go for a safe choice for the single
    • no long intro like TMB, start singing from the jump
    • earworm melody

    and let's go

if this hits #1, they really are genius

I disagree. Blinding lights was loved by almost everyone that heard it on first go. I remember everyone praising him for both singles as one was pop other was trap R&B

also thinking back to this point, its crazy how everything went soooo f***ing succesful for the after hours roll out. he was on fire

This is not true. There is a thread you can still access on here of people s***ting on it when it dropped and saying it was gonna flop.

The song fell on Billboard for months and didn’t reach #1 until after the album dropped

Song is DEFINITELY not trash. It's really safe but catchy. If any other popgirl came out with it, it would be beloved but we ain't even gonna get into that. its obv weeknd got diff expectations but we still gotta remember he is a full blown popstar, ofc the single will be for the radio and general population

That's exactly my point. It's generic slop that anyone could make. Maybe I hold The Weeknd to a higher standard then yall? Or maybe yall are just stans that can't be honest. The Weeknd's pop stuff isn't my favorite from him but he still makes quality pop usually. This is not quality pop music and easily his worse lead single. It's in the same tier as this slop

I think it’s guaranteed to debut at #1.

How long it stays there, or in the top ten, is the true question
